I've used 17" to 21" LCD monitors at work for years (some good, some bad, and some plain ugly). So I knew what I wanted when I bought the Viewsonic VX2235WM. See, I'm a self confessed Viewsonic junkie. Back in 1999 I bought a 21" P815 Professinal CRT Viewsonic. Not inexpensive - just under a grand, but worth every penny. The footprint of this beast was measured in acres, but oh the beautiful .25 dot pitch glory! But now its time to replace it. I know how painful it can be to use a lower end LCD 6 hours a day, and as I started my search I only looked for 22 inchers. But the specs of the viewsonic, especially the 1900 x 1050 resolution are what sold me. But not all is perfect. I upgraded my video card (wanted DVI out) and installed the new drivers. Then, in a moment of weakness, I inserted the CD-ROM that came with the monitor. Killed the new drivers I had just installed. Looked like cr@p. Do NOT install anything off that CD unless you must have the Parrot screensaver. This model has a silver insert in the base which is actually handy for paper clips and post-it notes. The OSD is classic Viewsonic and easy to use if you have ever set up a monitor to your vision/taste. It looked pretty darn good right out of the box. To find a better performing 22" LCD, you would have to spend $100-$150 bucks more. The final endorsement - my buddy saw mine and ordered one that night.Read full review
Foolishly, I purchased two of these monitors since I wanted to have identical monitors for use with my dual DVI outputs on my Video Card. I originally purchased this model monitor because of it's size and Viewsonic's supposedly solid reputation with monitor manufacturing. After a year of normal use, a 1/4" vertical line appeared on the right hand side of the screen. I originally thought it was the video card dying, but after I tried it on several other computers the same line was present dictating that it was a problem with the monitor. I called Viewsonic technical support went through some tests and the tech claimed it might be the DVI cable. Tried different cables, no go. I was determined to get an RMA but didn't want to be without a monitor for a while, so I purchased a 2nd one thinking I could use while the other was in repair and then have dual monitors on my PC after the first was fixed. I was hoping the defect in the 1st one was a unusual for Viewsonic. I purchased a used one on ebay. After hooking it up, this one had a thin horizontal line on the upper portion of the screen. I was going to send it back to the purchaser, but then he talked to Viewsonic and got me an RMA # for this one. I sent it in and now I am waiting here over 3 weeks and IT IS STILL IN REPAIR. Called customer service, they said I needed to wait 15-21 BUSINESS days for the repair. What kind of service is that??? First the build quality on these monitors is complete trash, their technical support worthless, and the RMA processing, the worst I've ever seen from any electronics company. You would think viewsonic has been doing this long enough to have good customer service and produce decent products. I can't believe I was dumb enough to buy a second one of these. I'm sure within a year's time, I'll be seeing some more vertical and horizontal lines. Stay away, complete trash.Read full review
I purchased this monitor from Costco about 6 months ago for 299.99. I've also seen it recently for 279.99. I have to say for this price, this monitor is an absolutely amazing deal. The 22 inch widescreen perspective displays 1680x1050 resolution with excellent brightness, color, and contrast. I purchased this monitor for an at home business and school work. The nice thing about the widescreen is that you can have 2 MSword or Internet explorer windows opened side by side and easily view both without eye strain. I spend a lot of time on the computer everyday so this was paramount to me. The thing that impressed me most about this monitor was the quality. It was extremely well packaged. Came with very high quality cables for ever connection the monitor was capable of. Was set up in a matter of seconds. Visually appealing and compact for a monitor of this size. All in all an excellent purchase which I would make again and highly recommend. Hope this helps!Read full review
I have only had this monitor for a day or so but I have given it a good workout playing DVDs and doing quite a lot of work on it as I am studying for exams. First of all I read and read every single review I could find on monitors and settled on the Samsung 206BW which has HDCP and 3000:1 dynamic contrast and is favourably reviewed, rave review everywhere in fact. I then realized that in Australia you get a Chi Mei panel not a Samsung panel and there had been some issues. I then cancelled my Samsung order and just went looking. When I compared the Samsung and the Viewsonice, I noticed that the Samsung was uglier and also the monitor height was much lower. This is a factor since both monitors have fixed heights. I then went to OfficeWorks and got a display monitor for $360AUD. I figured I would get the display monitor as it looked great and I knew there were no dead pixels. I have to say that this is a lovely monitor. It is hard to fault. Sure speakers could be bigger and louder but as built in speakers for general purpose use they are fine. The 22 inch monitor is fantastic and to make things even better I have retained my 17 inch Sony monitor as a second monitor. I absolutely recommend having TWO monitors as dragging forms between the two monitors is a huge advantage even just for surfing the internet. It is hard to imagine things getting any better to be honest. The monitor doesn't have HDCP which is the copyright protection system for HD DVD but the anticipated date for this coming in is 2010 - 2012 and I rather doubt if this pig will fly anyway.Read full review
Nice monitor & easy to set up. However, I keep getting an error message that even my IT neighbor can't remove. It pops up at each session & then goes away. Other than that, picture quality is good & the monitor functions well for my needs, which is basic, non-gaming use.
