This simple phone functions as intended and works very well considering it's modest price. Some of the negative comments suggest the reviewer(s) could have spent a bit more time learning it. Unlocking it is simple. The ring-tones are ring volume can be changed. Speed dial numbers are easy to set. The simple dock is a plus too. Yes, it's inexpensively built. What were you expecting for the price? It accepted the Ting SIM card I had and works fine on Ting's GSM network making it extremely inexpensive for the light user. I'm a technology professional too and have no serious criticisms. My 98 year old father uses it without issue.

I thought the slide button on the side of the phone was to lock the keypad -- it is not. You have to hold down the star button for 3 seconds to lock and unlock the phone. While you can answer the phone without unlocking it, my elderly mother-n-law was still not able to grasp why she could not dial out without holding down this button for 3 seconds. Additionally, she said the ring of the phone is a "squeal" and the volume (voice or ring) nor the ring tone can be adjusted or changed. Instead of a locking keypad, these phones need to be a flip-style phone -- that is an easier way for a senior to not pocket-dial someone as they may forget to lock the keypad once they've unlocked it. I will be returning the phone as she cannot use it, and she had a friend tell her it was a "cheap piece of junk" (although I wouldn't go that far). I do like the charging holster.Read full review

Mom used it a few days. Hated it. Got her a regular flip phone. Unlocking this phone is ridiculous. You have to press unlock then hold the * key. It locks way to easy and too often. Her vision is bad. Thought the big buttons would help, but the locking was a huge turn off.
