1996's "Twister", starring Helen Hunt and Bill Paxton, is an exciting adventure story involving the lives of storm chasers out to "plant" high-tech equipment into a tornado-and there's only one way to do it, up close and personal! Paxton and Hunt are estranged spouses who both are dedicated to severe weather tracking and warning systems. This love for the job eventually leads them back to their love for one another-but that's a side track to the real story. The tornadoes are the real stars. Several tornadoes are depicted in the movie, supposedly taking place in Oklahoma during one of the worst outbreaks in decades, and are masterfully done via CGI imagery. In fact, the twisters steal the show, and their violence is shown to a shockingly realistic degree. Hunt and Paxton are attractive-but not gorgeous-as the main players in this drama, and both give good-though not great-performances, and a good cast of supporting actors rounds out the story. I live only 40 miles from Joplin, MO, which was devastated by an EF-5 twister on May 22, 2011, so my first viewing of this movie recently was strangely haunted by the experience. The scenes near the end involving the actors and the F-5 cyclone are a bit too hard to swallow, but overall, this movie does what it's supposed to do. I give it an F-4!Read full review

Twister is an excellent movie both for entertainment and for learning more about twisters. In this time where twisters are increasing worldwide, it is urgent to learn of its destructive nature and the importance of getting out of harms way when warned. Many feel they can stay in their homes and escape the destruction that it brings, however statistics show that thousands, even millions perish from its destructive power yearly. This is a must see movie. A few second announcement is even made on the VHS to give warning about twisters and how to protect oneself in case one finds himself in harms way. I give this movie a 10 or 5 stars. I found no fault in the movie anywhere.
Love it
