The Tipmann Boss definitely lives up to its name. In life there are,"want to haves" and "got to haves." The Tipmann Boss is a "must have". Anyone who works on leather, as hard as they may try, cannot match the stitching this machine provides. You can pay close to $10,000 for saddle and tag sewing machines but if you're doing project work like belts, holsters, knife sheaths, or wallets, this lets you in by whole lot more leather.

Got mine used from e bay for $850.00 First of all I am a mechanical mechanism designer and engineer. The tippmann boss is a needle feed non reversing shuttle Hook hand operated double rack and sector gear machine. This machine is of poor design employing mostly cast zinc internal parts. At first ,this machine seems clever because of the unorthodox nature of it's design. There is nothing like it in the sewing machine world. The reason for that is the design of the tippmann does not function reliably enough for anybody else to copy. The needle feed is unreliable and very unusual in it's design. The bobbin and oscillating hook likewise has a tendency to jam . The most unusual aspect of this machine is it's foot lift mechanism which employs a binding pate lifting lugg messing with a serrated clamping guide shaft which will only work when all the settings are just perfect and is subject to wear and early failure. This machine should not be oiled or greased as the grease will keep the sliding parts from functioning properly. This machine relies on having loose fitting parts that are sloppy fit. This machine will work as described if everything is set just right but if not it will punch holes in your work and you will regret ever having purchased it. It's vastly overpriced for what it is It is not durable is not reliable and will spoil your work. nor being able to sew backward has some real disadvantages and also you can not pivot the work with the needle down without dropping the next stitch. If your skilled and very patent it may work for you but in general I would say stay away. Get yourself a class 441 motorized machine with a compound foot and walking needle feed of some kind.Read full review

For the price I expected more.... Machine was dry, not oiled, least they could of included a small bottle of machine oil. Wouldn't stitch....was about to box it up and send it back, read the manual several times and determined the timing was not correct the needle kept hitting the bobbin, obviously was not tested by the factory. Had to take it apart to adjust the timing and still having problems. After several weeks I got it stitching decent but most people would of already gave up and I wouldn't blame them for one second. not so disappointed anymore. ....2 years later! I have stitched a lot of Items with this machine with minimal problems. It takes some practice and skill, but if you are persistent, this thing can stitch!

I purchased one, it came out of the box brand new but a part was broken. Tippmann replaced the part. I’ve read the book watched the video and I’m still having a kinda of problems. My father has one is why I purchased this one. He can’t figure this machine out. He has been working with leather for more than fifty years. This machine will skip stitches at random. Once you get it adjusted you might as well trough your project in the trash. It jus stops stitching all together for no reason. So you have to start all over after you work on it. This is one of the most expensive yard ornaments that I own now. I wouldn’t give this thing to my worst enemy. If you purchase one be aware

I have to say I had to call sewingmachineoutlet twice due to credit card fraud prevention, and they were very helpful on the phone. Once the transaction went through I actually had the machine the next day to my surprise. As for the machine I read a lot of reviews and debated between a power or manual machine. I debated this for a few weeks because I worried about the reviews of this machine being hard to adjust etc. After unboxing and actually reading the directions and watching a few youtube videos I had it up and running in about 30 minutes. After another 15 minutes of adjusting the tension this thing was running like a champ. I wish I had done this sooner it took a 45 minute job hand stitching to 5 minutes with the "Boss" needless to say I love it. Now if you have tight areas to stitch I suggest you look at their other presser feet the stock one is huge but they do sell small ones that work very well. And I will be purchasing the optional light in the near future, I didn't think I would need it but I guess the old eyes don't work as well as they use to. But to sum it up I do bush craft items 2 to 3 layers of 8 to 9 ounce leather for sheaths etc and this thing goes through it like its nothing I highly recommend this machine and sewingmachineoutlet.Read full review
