This book was recommended to me by a friend who had lost weight through well-known programs and women's workout centers, but she was always hungry. She told me that Kat James' advice seemed to go against what she had learned about weight loss, so she tried it without expecting a lot. Not only did she continue to lose weight, she lost it where she most needed to, and I could see for myself that she looked younger, healthier, and happier. I was resigned to remaining on this side of size 6, and have never had much interest in makeup, hair and skin products. I simply wanted to get control of my blood pressure, to incorporate organic foods and natural supplements, and to improve my overall health so I could reduce or even quit taking medications for depression and fibromyalgia. I was looking for an authoritative source to help me build a good foundation of knowledge, so I could dare to set foot inside a Whole Foods Marketplace and know where to begin. If you are also in search of sensible information about managing your health holistically, you will find it here. Kat James has added to her own experience and expertise a wide-ranging body of research and resources, compiled and presented in a straightforward, encouraging manner. My first evening with this book was a huge boost to my confidence. Someone agreed with me that non-fat quasi-foods were counterproductive! Further, it made sense that a diet including healthy fats would reduce cravings. Cravings have always been my undoing when I attempt a diet: I think of a forbidden dessert, I want it, I feel guilty for wanting it, I feel deprived, weak, defeated, etc. I'm already dealing with depression! I don't need a diet to make me more depressed! Starting the next morning, working within Kat's recommended guidelines, I began putting together meals I can thoroughly enjoy, rich with beautiful fresh fruits and vegetables, meat, fish, eggs, and dairy foods. I feel as if I am pampering myself, I have had NO cravings even when standing before a bakery counter, and I have more energy to do things that increase my feelings of self-worth. Further, my husband and adult son benefit because I'm back to cooking with fresh ingredients, meals with more substance than carbs. Oh, yes. I lost 12 pounds in 2 weeks. Your results may differ. Kat James will help you start on the road she had already walked, away from the mind-set of the fashion/beauty/weight-loss industry and toward a natural, nurturing state. She addresses how to uncover the real beauty you carry within, how to feed and cultivate that beauty, and how to select and use the products that will enhance authentic beauty and comfort within your own skin. She presents the goal of self-love, self-nourishment, from which physical improvements will follow. Throughout, she comes across as a caring, upbeat, inspiring woman, courageous in upending misinformation, generous in practical wisdom. I am very glad a friend recommended this book to me, and I heartily recommend it to you.Read full review
This book is Amazing and will change your life, IF you are ready and willing!! Even if you can only do some of it, you WILL see a huge difference in your looks, how you feel, and be armed with information to pass on to others! I think however, that one should read Chapter 5 before all others! It will get you motivated faster than anything! Then of course go back and start from the beginning, that is if you can keep yourself out of the resourse section where you will find out where to buy some of the most awesome products on the planet! I was already using alot of them before I got the book, and now I have more options. I just love it! And so will YOU! Here's to a more glorious YOu.
Recommended read by my neurologist of all people. I found it a new way to look at the products I use daily. Big business is concerned with their bottom line, not my health. ... true even for the "healthy" food. Natural occurring elements cannot be patented like chemical concoctions can, so manufacturers look for chemical formulas that mimic the natural so they can patent the formula for a profit. Why not use natural and eliminate exposure to unknown chemicals? Best choices are not name brands for the most part. Read labels. Be ingredient-loyal, not brand name-loyal. Keep food choices simple, unprocessed and organic. Same message for the myriad of health and beauty products we smear on our bodies. There is so much information about the choices we have available. It requires some effort in our world of convenience, but how much is a healthy body worth to you? I found the book very helpful in making lifestyle changes.Read full review
