These are great books for people who enjoy imagination. Long ago 1979 I had the 5 book set and lost them. And now that the books are out of print, I bought the used books and they are in great condion.

Mandatory reading for anyone interested in understanding the appeal of “alternate” cultures and the collapse of Western/ rational thinking & fundamentals behaviors. We see the budding and flowering of a very dangerous and destructive Drug-culture… Taking root and blossoming under the innocent eyes of the well-meaning Parents of the 60’s & 70’s. The losses that I personally witnessed, growing up on this new found “Gospel” is astonishing.

This is an exploration of "Shaman" wisdom, Native American Spirituality, And altered states of consciousness... Through teachings, and the use of various plants, herbs, and succulents. While perhaps questionable in our society, these teachings offer a unique look into native traditions and beliefs. I highly recomend this book to anyone seeking a broader view into traditional South-Western Beliefs and practices. Very revealing, and with a non-critical, open minded acceptance of alternative views on spirituality and holistic pharmacology. I am a caucaison who grew up in a Mexican community. This book was almost required reading amongst the "Fella's"
As the REAL INDIAN TRIBE Castaneda CLAIMED to know so well will tell you IF YOU CONTACT THEM, this book & ALL of Castaneda's books are HOAXES, & NOT TRUE! See my other reviews of this author for news articles, etc, that revealed him for what he was... A PLASTIC, a FAKE! CALL OR WRITE THE INDIAN PEOPLE THESE AUTHORS CLAIM TO BE AFFILIATED WITH! It's CHEAP,& you'll show respect by doing so rather than blindly following these pathetic excuses for REAL INDIANS!
It is easy to see why the writer lost his Phd over false statements in the book, but not so easy to see how he got it in the first place. I've known many Indians while living in AZ including Yaqui. They almost always fast and do a smoke ritual prior to vision quests or any seeing for that matter. He mentions none of these basic facts. He probably did use the peyote et al but on his own or as a lark. And if the facts were as he states in his book - well that tells us what the inside of his mind looks like. Not recommended for serious reading. Michael Langan
