The 1990's were an amazing time for family movies. What started as Disney bringing back the Disney Musical opened the door for many other animation studios to start doing the same. In the case of Prince of Egypt, the result was better than most of what Disney created throughout the entire Disney Renaissance. Prince of Egypt tells the Exodus story in a way that is neither overtly preachy, or particularly secular. Honestly, this movie is far better than any Christian animation studios attempt to write the Exocus story for children. Unlike those animations, this has a great budget, brilliant acting, a chilling musical score... AND it doesn't matter what your religion is, you're more than likely to enjoy this movie. More importantly, this movie doesn't over simplify, or tone down the harsh reality of what occurs in it... It knows how to take it's audience, even the young members of it's audience, seriously. Something few animated movies like to do today. Usually I'm not a fan of celebrity casts in animation, but this is an exception. The whole cast is spectacular, especially the members of the cast who sing their parts aswell. If you're not a fan of musicals, or animation, you probably won't enjoy this.... But at least give it a try. It might just change your outlook. And if you saw this movie as a child? ...It's definitely worth another watch through.Read full review
The Prince of Egypt is a wonderfully rich and sumptuous animation that I find moving and uplifting. In fact, it's nothing short of a masterpiece. It tells the story of Moses, and how he led the Israelites out of Egypt. However, unlike the Ten Commandments (with Charlton Heston), this animation explores the close relationship between Moses and Rameses. The footage here is fascinating. The musical score is magnificent, and it mirrors and highs and lows of Moses' life - life in the royal palace in the lap of luxury; his confusion when he discovers his Hebrew origins; his anguish of being the reluctant foe of Rameses, and the awesome finale. It's all here. I especially love the film version of "When You Believe" - the part where the kids sing in Hebrew is magical. I don't speak Hebrew, but it's sung with such innocence and conviction that it moves me anyway. There are times that I forget it's an animation, such is the splendour of the artistry.Read full review
I have read the story of Moses straight out of the bible and it was hard to picture everything that was going on, so it was nice for there to be a movie, an actual picture, of what happened. For instance the burning bush: I always pictured it as red and hot and burning profusely; in the movie however, they make the flames white and it is very calm and relaxing, the way I hope others might picture it instead. I saw this movie as a teenager and loved it! Now in my mid-20s, it is nice to recapture my beliefs and see the power of God and his wonders. Even though it is a cartoon/musical, it all seems very real (like no talking animals or seemingly impossible events). So, all in all, I think it is a great movie and I hope others find this review helpful and chose to purchase the movie for your families also.Read full review
This movie is a family favorite. I bought an extra one to send to a family member. The music and singing in the movie is spectacular as well as the Biblical storyline. There is some improv to the historical event but it was done well.

An animated version of the life of Moses as described in the Old Testament's Book of Exodus. The story centers upon the the destiny of two brothers--one born a prince, the other born a slave. Only one will emerge as a leader and as a liberator, fighting to free Hebrew slaves employed by his father, the Pharaoh, and finally realizing his mission as a savior. Dreamworks delivered huge on a story that is incredible. The voice acting, animation, everything works in this move. Simply Amazing.
