As a kid back in the '50's, I was enthralled with the Disney TV series "Zorro". When my dad told me about a movie done in the '40's, the TV station from Phila. showed a late show presentation of it, and dad allowed me to stay up and watch it. Here was handsome Tyrone Power "swash" and "buckling" with the best. Wow! So here is that 1940 version of the story, as only 20th Century Fox could do it, with Power, Basil Rathbone, and beautiful young Linda Darnell setting the standard by which later versions would be compared. All the later versions, the serials of the '40's, (one of them, "The Ghost of Zorro", starred Clayton Moore, later to become famous as another masked avenger known as "The Lone Ranger"), Disney's movie "The Sign of Zorro", and the later movies with Antonio Banderas, "The Mask of Zorro" and "the Legend of Zorro", all owe a lot to this classic movie. Also (surprise) the DVD contains both the original black and white edition as well as a colorized version. Those costumes really look great in color! A must for the collector of classic movies! mister_grillmanRead full review

This picture, especially the color version, it's nowhere near 80 years old. I have loved it ever since my own childhood. It never gets stale, and the actors are terrific, With a special nod to my favorite villain, basil Rathbone. His outcome at the films conclusion is especially satisfying! Tyrone Power is handsome, Linda Darnell is beyond gorgeous… What more can I say?

I recieved a copy of this movie, in a lot of other movies I bought. I liked it so well I had to have the Special Edition color version. The Mark of Zorro is a great bit of fun. Tyrone Power is a handsome subtly comical Zorro. He plays the part to perfection, and has a great supporting cast. This movie has just the right mix of action, romance and humor. A great pick up for all movie fans and espiecally Zorro fans.
Old School Zorro is awesome. Basil Rathbone was actually the best swordsman in Hollywood. He taught Tyrone Power how to fence. The sword fights are excellent. It looks like they are using REAL swords. The choreography is amazing.
