had my genealogy done and learned that mary boleyn is a great grandmother of mine, and that her daughter(also my great gm) is believed to be the illegitimate child of Henry Tudor 8th. This made the book very special to me as it revealed some of the facts of my ancestors life. I am a lover of history and historical novels bring history to life.

This was a well written book that covers the often brushed over story of Mary Boleyn, sister to the infamous Anne. It delves into her experiences with Henry VIII and also puts into question the paternity of her children. Karen Harper does a wonderful job of bringing to life all of the historical figures in this book. Mostly based around fact, the author fills in the gaps with her own ideas for what happened during the events of one of Englands most notorious time periods through the eyes of a key, yet distant and silent player in the events. Full of the dramatics, mystery and tretchery of the Tudor era. I highly recommend this story for a unique perspective. I have to admit I have not yet read "The Other Boleyn Girl" by Philippa Gregory, which I believe is more focused on Mary as well. But I have it and it is on my list, so once I get to it I may come back and update this review w/ comparisons.Read full review
