I live in the country and get my water from the rual district.I wondered how I was going to get water if a major disester hit. The water tower is just 2 miles away. This book tells you everything you need to know. How to find it,pumpit storeit, hold it .Thats what I wanted.
I purchased this book as a unit recommended reading in an intermediate level Sustainable Rural Development course, as a tutor of the course. I would mark this book a healthy 9/10, tha approach is concise, gives good basics info at the introduction, references to actual as well as theoretical examples make the reading interesting. A well planned layout is well supported by diagramatical and pictorial support, relevant to the section, the content is complete, leaving no major questions unanswered, and covers the full range of subject matter for anyone needing to locate extract move store or condition their own water supply, prior to use in a home or farm situation. An excellent book, highly recommended, The only point of minor criticism, to which i would draw attention is in the conversion of units, data is assumed as US gallons, and conversions are given to Metric units but not UK gallons, In my experience most companies producing specifications for water items quote Litres or Imperial gallons,in Europe and the southern hemisphere leaving a possibility of an error of approx 20%, if this point is not taken on board when using the publication for reference tables. It is obvious that the writer was aiming primarily at the home (US) market, but the principles described remain valid on a global scale.Read full review
