I was not sure if I would like this workout because I prefer the older Firm workouts compared to the latest workouts, but this one did get my heart pumping during the cardio segments. I like the band, it is very tight and restrictive as compared to the band on the dvd, however I believe with repeated use, over time it will loosen to allow more flowing movements like the Firm reps in this dvd. My recommendation to anyone who buys this and the band breaks is to try angle weights and adjust your workout when needed-for the sculpting parts of the dvd or maybe a weighted ball for others - use your imagination & equipment to modify if that would happen. I would recommend this to anyone who likes the Firm!! I have quite a collection of the Firm workouts & this is another good Firm workout.
This work-out became one of my favorites right away! It incorporates some familiar Firm moves with some new ones, including bowling and skiing. I am a long-time 'firmie', doing The Firm workouts for the last 15 years. I would classify this DVD as a mainly cardio work-out with some added toning, and not a sculpting work-out. The work-out begins with a warm-up, then -a cardio segment -a toning segment for the legs using the loop band -another cardio segment -a toning segment for the arms using the loop band and hand weights -finally, an ab workout incorporating some moves with the band. I think this work-out can be modified for all levels of fitness. You can start by doing the 'Express' option and do only the cardio, then work up to doing the toning. I also use the Express option to add some cardio on my heavy sculpting days. I used 5 lb weights for the arms, though you can use 3 lb, 1 lb weights or no weights at all (in the arms segment). I think this work-out is enjoyable even if you are new to the Firm. Allison is my favorite Firm instructor (she has only one work-out I do not like) and she delivers once again here. She spends a good amount of time building each set, so you have time to catch on and get the most out of the moves. There is alot of jumping/hopping in this DVD so you may want to consider that if you have trouble with your knees. Overall, I feel that she keeps her energy up and makes it fun for you at home. I ordered this DVD expecting to get a long band like the one used in the Firm Pilates and Wave series work-outs, and was surprised to find this band is a loop and is like a big rubber-band. I liked the resistance it gave especially to the back of the thighs in the leg segments. One should use care when using the band so you do not trip during wear, and it is more comfortable around the legs with pants on, rather than shorts (where the rubber is directly against the skin). I recommend this work-out! It is not as intense as Allison's Bootcamp Maximum Calorie Burn. But it is also not so slow that I feel like I wasted what time I had to work-out by barely getting my heart rate up (like several of Allie's work-outs).Read full review
This is another excellent fitness DVD produced by the Firm instructors. I have used at least 7 others and find them extremely effective and I actually enjoy ALL the workouts. This one really gets the heart pumping and includes a nice variety of fast paced moves and exercises, which keeps you interested. There is one point that slightly brings down the review, although I still give it 5 stars; the band included in the DVD set is a green medium resistance band whereas the band used by the instructors in the DVD is a light resistance yellow coloured one. This makes some of the exercises more difficult to do as you are restricted in your movement with the green band yet the instructors have much more freedom of movement, which is needed for those parts of the workout. Maybe I'm just not strong enough, or not used to using resistance bands, but I found it difficult to keep 'proper form' while doing those parts of the DVD. I really like the sculpting potion of this video. Great for working legs and hips.The cardio part took me a few tries to get the moves down,but if you are a good dancer you shouldn't have a problem. I like too that you can do the entire workout or parts of it if you are pressed for time. A fun workout that doesn't require a lot of equipment. Easy to take with you on trips.
Love The Firm. This workout DVD gets right to the spot. If you want to tone and shape you buttocks, this DVD will cause them to scream. I let my girlfriend use this DVD and she even agrees that The Firm is wonderful!!!I have been doing The Firm DVD's for 10 years now, and maintain my weight. Works all your body parts in 45 minutes. Best workout around, Circuit training ROCKS!!
