This book was quite a story, for its time. If you love baseball and recognize the names of the players in this book, you'll love it. It's a behind-the-scenes look at the Brooklyn Dodgers of the 1950s, by a newspaper reporter who covered the team -- traveling to away games with them, drinking with them, etc. He got to know them as well as anyone did. Then he followed up with the players years later, to see what they were up to and get their memories of their championship season. It's honest and detailed and sometimes surprising. If you want the inside scoop about a legendary team, this is your book.

As a lifetime Dodgers fan, I thoroughly enjoyed reading the review of those early days in Brooklyn. I was a kid of 9 & 10 in those thrilling summers of 1952-53. Fantastic memories.
