About this product

Product Information

Sylvania first began manufacturing vacuum tubes in the 1930s. These tubes were used in the early ham radios, home radios, amplifiers, and prototype electric instruments. The 12AX7 Sylvania tubes are known for their long plates. The long plates allow for improved microphonics and support crisp and clear radio transmissions. Because of the extended length of the plates, this tube is able to act as an amplifier. The plate allows the 12AX7 to amplify sounds and noise by as much as 100 times. This increase in plate length allows older radios to deliver a greater level of sound even without a separate amplifier. The longer gray plates also minimize harmonic distortion of the sounds coming from vintage audio equipment. The plate in these matched tube sets measures about 1.1 inches long and 0.05 inches in thickness. This 12AX7 Sylvania tube also features a pair of copper grid posts. This pair of posts connects the plate to the screen grid. With the pair of copper posts, more electrons are able to flow toward the cathode and power the acoustic system. The anode voltage is about 250 volts. The anode's current is about 1.2 mA. The rare Sylvania 12AX7 stock vacuum tube is utilized for transmitting audio. It is ideal for the replacement of JAN Sylvania 12AX7WA in vintage equipment. It also delivers an accurate sound for today's modern Hi-Fi radios and musical instrument amplifiers. This rare product also has a halo or D getter. The D getter provides the tube with low-level voltage amplification for radio frequencies. Some musicians and audiophiles like to stock up on these rarities for backups. The Sylvania 12AX7 stock tube is built upon a dual triode network. The dual triode consists of the high-value plate resistor, which has an impedance of 100,000 ohms. These products also have a cathode resistor that is designed to provide grid bias. The grid bias is important for optimizing the timing and directional flow of electrons. When the resistor is bypassed, this unit has a voltage gain of about 60 volts. Its amplification of noise almost doubles the voltage gain and helps make it an excellent amp for use in early to mid-20th-century equipment. You’ll enjoy the good quality of sound that these Sylvania 12AX7 tubes produce when used to restore old RCA console televisions. Additionally, these vintage matched tubes are also ideal for use in RCA and Mullard radios and communication devices from the 1930s to the early 1980s. This is because they can be wired in series or in parallel. This flexibility makes these products ideal for a variety of equipment manufacturers. They are used as stock replacement units in RCA and Mullard phone systems. RCA, Siemens, and Mullard also used them in some early computers. These products are designed to emit a low level of noise while they are in use. This is because they are heated indirectly and produce minimal vibration. The minimal amount of noise means that you hear the radio frequency that is tuned. The low-frequency amplification allows you to focus on the good music rather than a static or humming noise. The tube measures 2.2 inches tall and 0.8 inches in diameter.

The sign pictured, white lettering and illustration against a dark background on a sturdy metal blank, arrived quickly, wrapped in tissue paper. The sign is large enough to be noticed but not so large to be inelegant. The lettering and image are proportionate, clean and sharp. Perhaps a tad pricey but I don't think you'll be disappointed. I REALLY LIKE IT: this is second such sign purchased in less than a month!

    Sylvania 12AX7 long gray plate

Great sounding tube with extremely low noise floor. As soon as I put it in my matamp GT120, I noticed the background popping and hissing noises it previously made had completely disappeared. Relatively flat frequency response, with even amounts of bass, mids and treble. Great sounding when overdriven as well, though not as 'sparkly' (or fizzy) as other tubes in the upper registers but I generally prefer a flatter sounding tube to one that has too much top end gain.

  • No school like the old school.

I replaced the factory china tubes in my 2015 Vox AC 15 with these. Literally like taking a thick pillow off he front of the amp. The new sound is AMAZING! Pony up the dough for a set of vintage tubes for your amp and you will not only believe the hype, but be wondering why on earth you waited so long to do it. They truly do not make them like this anymore so get em while you can. Rock on!

  • You just gotta hear these things

I am using these in a Dynaco ST-70 Stereo Amplifier that was originally equipped with EL-34s. I had tried many different EL-34s, some quite good indeed, but all were lacking the transparency I crave. I finally decided to try a quad of Made in America GE 6L6GCs. Biasing was a breeze. So what did they sound like? The difference in transparency was immediately obvious. And down the road ? In the two months I have been listening with these tubes I have heard detail as never before and listening fatigue is a thing of the past.

  • Great value, great tubes

They sound great in my AC30C2. I've got these two in my v1, v2, a JJ Gold Pin Balanced in v3, and a quad of JJ's in the power section. Pretty significant upgrade from the stock tubes. Great shipping as well. Very Happy.

  • highly desirable preamp tube

the roar, the twang and the grit of the american sound, together with the musicality, the precision and the balance of the best european gears. For V1 position in any kind of tube amp.
