I'm going to be a bit more critical than most because I got the model that was about a year younger here cheaply and when it was lost I tried to replace it and this was the closest match, but not exactly so. It has all the features I like about the Walkman line in general. I dislike the way Sony seems to randomly change little features every model, and think they got those small nits mostly wrong on this one. First big gotcha- no volume control! The model only six months later has them, so it was quite a surprise to find that I needed to upgrade headphones to something with a volume control. Second, more of a nuisance, is the "hold mode". I honestly do not understand what it is for besides being a pain in the buttocks. Sleep; ok that would be useful. But if it goes directly from sleep to off...that's just powering down after a while; it's not hold, it's not sleep. And when you turn it back on? You're in "hold mode". Why? Why would I want that? The button doubles as the power button. BUT- you'll search for this one, believe me- THE POWER BUTTON DOESN'T WORK UNLESS YOU'RE PAUSED ON A SONG! When I got it the HOLD was permanently locked on and I had to do a hardware reset with a pin. Fine now. Third, what is taking nearly a bloody gig on the hard drive? An OS for a device like this should be at MOST 100 meg. What's all the other hard drive space going for? A clean, wiped drive on this is more like 7.2, not 8 gig. Not a problem for me, but I was surprised that it's twice as thick as the next year's model was. I'm glad I bought it, it was worth what I paid, it does the job. Another diff between it and the others in the Sony line is that only the power button will turn it on. Most the others come on when you touch any button. I actually like this better as the others constantly start in your pocket at inopportune times.Read full review
I love the Sony walkman mp3 and I don't care if the technology is out of date. This device is very easy to use and made with quality features. They last for a long time and worth every penny.
