Bought this used for my 98 yr old father so he could listen to baseball games on AM radio. It's a nice headset, but my father has difficulty applying enough pressure to the on/off button and turning the volume. He also tends to fat-finger the Band button when he's taking the headphones on/off, thereby messing up the pre-set stations. I had hoped that this would be workable for him by himself, but I think he's only going to be able to use it when someone is there to help him with it. It's also a little tight on his head.

Being a used item, it came with no user manual and was unable to download one from Sony or anyone else. I managed to get enough online manual help to get it going, and set the time and preset a few stations. Reception was good ... when it worked! After the initial use, when I would try to turn it on, the little zeros would appear, and no amount of pushing buttons, etc., would get it working. After a while, a couple to 5 or 6 minutes, I could get it to play my stations. Also, I was surprised that it doesn't have padded ear cushions, took a while to get used to. As I'm working in the woods behind my house, and the bands are not very tight, and the earpieces are hard plastic, it would slip around on my head, or even fall off. It surely is a "WALKMAN" and NOT a "WORKMAN". Also, if I banged it, swatting a blackfly, or during my work in the woods, it would shut off and I would have to go thru the previously mentioned procedure to get it going again. Since it was a Sony, I expected better performance than this. I have ordered a NEW 3M AM/FM Hearing Protector, to replace my old one I got from Northern Tool.Read full review

My wife has a head set radio that is too heavy for her to use. The Sony is light and the sound is much better than the bigger set she was using. The Sony has a lot more features on it, and still easy to use. It has a strap for the back of your head which holds the Sony in place, Could not beat the price.

Reception and sound quality are excellent. Battery compartment door is weak link. Sometimes during running movement the door can become dislodged and spill out batteries on ground. Not productive.

I use the headset radio mainly for late night AM radio and it works fine. The presets are great. The reception for both AM and FM are remarkably good for a headset radio. The headphones don't leak much sound externally. I've used another set of the same model for many years and was happy to find another set in pristine condition.
