I bought this product (CCD-TR96) used as a replacement and it was in excellent condition for its age - about 10+ years so it is obvious it was built well and very durable. I found It to be superior to the older camcorder I had and works very well and easy to learn. Obviously newer models are smaller, lighter don't use tapes any longer - but I would imagine could be more complex.

This poor old camera is worn out! When I received it the fast forward function did not work. After viewing about ten 2 hour films the rewind function stopped working. It is totally worthless for what I need - a camera to play my 8 mm tapes so I can transfer them to DVDs. It was a good camera at one time, but not now. Tom

I had one identical to it but a tape was stuck in it! So luckily I found this one! It's old! The one I bought her was in great condition! Now I'm going to transfer all my tapes on DVD somehow! Lol

THE CRITICAL REVIEW IS ONE PERSON THAT RECEIVED WHAT IS PROBABLY A USED AND ABUSED ONE OF THESE. I'VE BEEN BUYING, CLEANING, AND RE-SELLING THIS MODEL FOR SIX YEARS AS A HOBBY. YES, THERE WILL BE THE OCCASIONAL 20 YEAR OLD CAMCORDER THAT'S BEEN OVER WORKED. MY EXPERIENCE WITH THIS MODEL HAS BEEN VERY POSITIVE. I'VE SOLD AT LEAST 20 OF THEM, AND ALL HAVE BEEN RECEIVED BY THE BUYERS WORKING JUST FINE FOR WATCHING AND CONVERTING TAPES.
