Have used many digital cameras…the Sony a77 is most versatile..can shoot from any angle and position with the excellent articulating screen. Images are stunning with 24mp. Just finished shooting fall color …the best ever with Sony a77.

When this model first came out the technology was so far ahead of the competition my late wife and I had to have them as soon as they were available. The first day they were released in Hong Kong we bought two of them. As it turned out there was a delay in releasing them in the US so we actually had ours for a full two months before they were sold in the states. So why is this probably my 30th copy? We shoot a LOT of photos. As professional concert, wedding, boudoir, commercial, event, and real estate photographers we are always shooting. I know this model inside out and the technology is about as far as I need to go for most of my shooting. The tilt and swivel LCD is priceless for concert photography because it allows use to shoot over our heads and at some almost impossible angles. We are able to get shots that the other "pros" are not able to get. I shoot mostly with Minolta legendary lenses which are hard to beat for color and sharpness even with all of today's technological advances. Add in the ease of use for the A77 and we have a great combo. I take great care of my gear and I resell my cameras every 3-6 months to keep the shutter count down for resale. None of my bodies have ever failed me so I would have to say that they are very dependable. It's a shame that Sony strayed away from the "A" mount cameras, I've yet to see any results from the mirror-less line that make me want to rush out and buy one.Read full review

bought this product because of its great features like the panaramic view feature and the speed of the fps so you don't miss anything great size and good solid weight not light and cheap feeling easy to use love the way you can turn the lcd screen around when not in use so dosen't get scratched like everything about it great product loved the price would refer to everyone we go to alot of places and needed a camera that we could use and count on to take great pictures
There's a lot out there describing the A77 so I'll try to keep this brief. Background: I shoot nature, people and race events so I want image quality, speed and did I say quality??? I got started in digital with Nikon because my friends use Nikon; lending is great! I enjoyed my Nikon D300 and D60 spare body then the D7000 which was faster with video built-in. I love the Nikon flash quality by the way. I was looking at the D800 but wanted faster and the possibility of even better (scary fighting words!). What's great about the A77 (and lower models too): Sony knows video and the A77 does 1080p60, it's solid. Optics - the standard lens series is not bad, like the consumer Nikon line but the image stabilization is in the body. Zeiss lenses are available, I have the 16-80 and it's impressive! Live electronic view - the eyepiece is digital not optical like most SLR's. It lets you see how the sensor is interpreting the scene. Video - as I mentioned this body shoots high-end video but zooming must be done smoothly. High Dynamic Range - you get three options (off, let the camera decide exposure based on advanced analysis of bright and dark areas, flatten three shots into one HDR). If you leave it in the middle setting it optimizes and you don't even know it's happening but it works. The HDR setting VERY quickly shoots three then sits there for a while before turning control over to you for the next shot. HDR is very well done and you can control how much range to include plus it saves a non-HDR image as well, nice but slow. Speed - okay it doesn't wake up like a Nikon but once alive it can do 12 FPS; shooting one shot is hard but you can set "Single" shot mode. Burst mode is ~1 sec. before the buffer fills, which seems very odd to me and I use FAST cards. Night shooting - even though raw high ISO noise level is higher then the D7000, you have interesting night options like shooting 5 shots for lower noise and good sharpness - pretty amazing. Also the display shows you what mode you're in if you switch at night so no flashlight needed. The back LCD swings and tilts - very handy plus it switches to the internal based on your face being up to it, seamless! Who cares: Many megapixels, tons but whatever. It takes a lot to work on such massive files. I ended up with a server class computer and it really helps; keeps my house warm too. Lots of cute shooting modes + 3D, please don't waste my time. Down-side (nothing much here): The eyepiece resolution is not as high as I'd like which is frustrating. Also, live view does not show the brightness ratio that I'm used to on an SLR; you don't see the sun glinting off bright objects for example. In the final image file, displayed on a real monitor it's all good, beautiful actually. I'd like to see a better user controls and external browser interface config, wireless would be good. Let me customize! I may have missed it but my stills are numbered sequentially but my videos number from 0 with each new card. I always seem to have trouble getting lenses to index properly especially when trying to put the plastic backcap on the one just removed - why can't it go on different ways? Faster HDR processing please. Let's see some super-wide angle lenses! I'm not impressed with the flash usability, Nikon still wins there. Recommendations: Get the fastest cards - SanDisk 95MB/s! This evolutionary picture taking wizard, represents the genius of the Sony camp, and causes one to wonder; whats next? The technology employed for the super bright viewfinder is astounding. Construction and quality of this camera body is all first class, and for the price, a super bargain. Other features, too numerous to cover here, are enough to keep the advanced user chalenged, to reap all the inherent capabilities of this picture taking wonder.
