I have been big on vampires and werewolves for most of my life, and have quite a library. I was pleased to add this to my collection. Skinwalkers (someone with the ability to change their physical appearance, and apparently, personality) are seen often in native American folklore. The European version of the folklore is set up on the premise that a full moon causes man to change shape. Most of the stories are written on the idea that this affliction is created by someone being bitten by another who has been previously bitten. Skinwalkers is an interesting adaptation of the lore, making it more current and possibly more human. We get a glimpse of how this affects the lives of those who are afflicted (?), as well as those around them. If you enjoy tales of the supernatural, you may find that you enjoy this tale. The movie is nicely done, some nice scenery, and a few twists and tears.Read full review
I know other reviews were good, but i can't jump on the wagon here. The movie was a bore and I saw pleanty of other GOOD Werewolf movies. The end was bad and leaves question for a sequil. How? Nobody I think cares. Oh well, I'll spruce it up but it's not as good as I will present it... Werewolfs, bound by the blood of the wolf, that can kill with curses and move at lightening speed, watching the night sky for the rise of the blood-red crescent moon. They are Skinwalkers. They feed on flesh and thirst for the taste of human blood. The red moon signals each pack, divided by principles, hell bent to survive an ancient prophecy. On his 13th birthday, Timothy, a half-blood, is about to reach the time of his transformation. He's been guarded since birth by those around him. They know the power he holds. He alone has the power to control the destiny of his family, and their kind, a gift that has placed his very life in danger. On the third night, at the rise of the red moon, a war will rage for control of their kind. There are two warring factions: one would like the curse to end, the other embraces bloodlust, and revels in the immortal freedom of the beast within. They will do anything to preserve their way of life. To survive, it means finding the boy. The one with the power to control their very survival.Under the full red moon, the violent feud pits brother against brother and basically good against evil. Rambo Action in this keeps me from giving the movie D+ . Final is C - . Pay LESS than $5.00 on ebay including S&H. 'Blood and Chocolate' was a better movie than this. DTDRead full review
Stay with the movie. I watched it twice and enjoyed it both times. I found that I had missed things the first time that made the movie a little clearer. Although it is a good movie I thought the story line should have leaned more toward the Wolf Clan. Why they did'nt want to change the way they lived stayed vague although it was mentioned. Why do they alway have to wear leather and ride Cycles? Why not suits and ties with battles to the death with lots of graphics throughout the entire movie. This movie wasn't meant to be tame and wolves should be wolves.
I loved the originality of the script and the excellent performances of the actors. I have long been a collector of Horror films, especially those dealing with vampires or werewolves, and this movie does not only tell a believable story, but the action is non-stop and kept me glued to the screen. I am glad to see that there are writers still in Hollywood who can invent or clarify a story line and not simply remake a hit from the past. I also loved the fact that prosthetics were used in a believable fashion that relying on the dubious quality of CGI. If you enjoy original stories about werewolves with good acting and cinematography, then this is a must see. Do yourself a favor and see this film. 4 stars definately.
I wouldn't say an excellent movie, but it was very good. I love anything in the supernatural, Sci Fi genre especially the werewolf myth. I really liked the tie in with Native American belief. Jason Behr is just totally hot as the leader of the werewolf biker gang. Lots of action, much gore....well it is a werewolf movie.
