It's sideways, covered with a flimsy plastic cover. And, when some shaggy fabric jammed, it was VERY difficult to get access to the feeddogs to free it. I would buy this again, though. Waited until I used it to give feedback. Overall, simple to use and I'm happy with it.

I contacted seller and was immediately offered a refund upon return of item. I returned it and got a refund. Seller was excellent and quickly responded to me and got all issues taken care of.
