This is a stunning watch. Seiko has hit it out of the park with this high quality pilot watch. Unlike many so called pilot watches, this one has the size to make it quite readable. At 48mm even the sub-dials are legible. Seiko says this new radio controlled solar 8B92 movement is accurate to within 1 second for the next 1,000 years. Not sure how they know this, but so far it keeps exactly the right time. The band is of better quality compared to a lot of Seikos. This has always been the sore spot with them. But this one seems to be a better quality. If your looking for a pilot watch with a big presence, then this one will do it. It will definitely get noticed.

Large bezel with slide rule is great, but Seiko should have used some colors to make the tiny numbers more readable, to cope with the clutter. The manual is TERRIBLY hard to understand. I rewrote it. Email craigc.computerclass at yahoo dot com for the Word doc.

Great looking pilot watch. Accurate, easy to read, great lume, solid end-links, substantial bracelet. This is the largest Seiko in my collection (of 26) and though my wrist only measures 7.0-7.25 inches, it is fairly flat and I have no problem wearing this 48mm watch. Lug width is 22mm. Looks great on leather as well. A stunning value at a sub $300 price.

Seiko is no stranger to quality watchmaking and I was pleasantly surprised with the proficiency in this model. I am a tool watch guy and I have no time to worry about watch accuracy. I own and use several atomic and gps radio sync watches for that reason and adding the solar charging feature is icing on the cake. The SSG-001 by Seiko is not only supremely accurate and will never need a battery, they have won me over with a large, uncluttered and highly visible dial. I have sent many watch models out the door for such minor issues as sub-dial light refraction, skinny hands, tiny date window, insufficient lume, over complicated complications and most frustrating- poor craftsmanship in hand alignment. This watch fires on all cylinders and does so with style, comfort and exceptional value. I have donned watches from $10 to $5000 and have yet to be more impressed than with this Seiko. No watch is going to meet every need and I prefer a ratcheting unidirectional bezel with minute markers for timing functions but I can easily operate the visible and accurate chronograph for timing purposes. Well done, Seiko. You exceeded my expectations here. Read full review
