I LOVED the ending Race when Secretariat was surging all by himself and when he rounded the turn to the Finish line they played the Song " Oh Happy Day" As he finished a Legendary Length of 31 Lengths NEVER has any other Horse Come close to that. They say he could have won every race he ran like that if he wanted to, but Secretariat had a Lazy streak and Always came from dead last to win, Except for the Final Race like he Knew this was the Big Enchilada and he was fed up with that Pesky horse Sham constantly nagging at his side. And of course let's not forget it was a Woman that out started a man from the start of the Breeding of Secretariat. She was in a Man's world and they laughed at her when she was winning until that Final Race. EXCITING to watch

When Secretariat died at 19, the autopsy revealed that the animal's heart was 2 and a half times the size of an average horse's. Bill Nack had followed the horse for its entire life and wrote the book Secretariat, which inspired this film. This is an engaging film that horse lovers everywhere will enjoy. It is my husband's favorite movie, and the fact that he has borrowed it from the local branch of the public library so many times, prompted me to surprise him with his very own DVD of Secretariat. It was a late Christmas gift and he has viewed it many times over already.

I bought this movie on ebay, it was previously viewed, the seller was precise in the description and I got exactly what I paid for, which I might add I couldn't find this movie anywhere for this price. The movie is wonderful, it really shows the life of Secretariat, his wins and loses. What an awesome family movie, the children loved it and I must add so did I. Mrs. Tweedy (Chaney) is a remarkable woman with strength and charisma, Secretariat is truly a legend. I remember watching him on T.V. when I was a kid and I loved him then and now as an adult he is by far the best race horse who ever lived. This movie is a great family movie and disney really brings out all the things that made him famous. My daughter and I went to the movies and saw this movie when it first came out, but had to have it for our collection. Thats why I purchased it. This is a must see movie for all kids and adults. It shows that in this day and time, when times get tough don't give up keep fighting for what you believe in. It just might lead you to the road of victory.Read full review
I normally have an intense dislike for horse movies. The people who make them don't know horses, don't get it, and don't deliver. When this movie debuted, I read a lot of positive comments from racing insiders and horse people. Anyone who ever saw Secretariat run, especially in the 1973 Belmont, can never forget that sight. Racing was different then, the people and the times were different, and there was more of an elegance to it all. Secretariat gave us something to cheer about and feel good about. This movie successfully recreates the feel of that time, in the clothing, the cars, the sets, the scripting. For those of us who were there, we can relive those glorious races of Secretariat's. Those who came later can see and get a sense of what we felt. The people who loved and cared for Secretariat were very well cast, from Diane Lane as Penny Chenery, to the role of Eddie Sweat, played by Nelsan Ellis. The director and producers did their homework, and brought in the right people to bring a realism to the film. The cast gave impressive performances, so that I never felt I was watching a movie. In one scene, Penny Chenery herself has a cameo appearance. The horse(s) who played Secretariat were carefully chosen, and sometimes it was hard to remember we were watching a movie horse. The cinematography was beautifully and uniquely done involving the horses on the track so that one gets a feel for the power and strength of these magnificent creatures. There are bonus features as well, which include one with Penny Chenery. No one should overlook "Heart of a Champion". This includes the heart-stopping footage of Secretariat's actual races. To be able to rewatch and relive his Belmont tour de force alone is worth the price of admission. Secretariat was the perfect horse - conformationally correct, beautiful, with a good nature, and a tremendous sense of who he was. On Belmont day, he knew his moment was at hand. For this movie to be whole-heartedly endorsed by the people who lived the dream and gave Secretariat his moment is the highest recommendation of all. This movie will endear Secretariat to a new generation, and remind us older folks why we loved him, and his people, so much. You can't go wrong with this movie. It will make you feel good.Read full review
