I purchased a new Chamberlain (which is the same as Craftsman) through eBay. The price was right so i got the same hp as the unit I previously had. So this was a change out. The old unit was about 19 years old and we were having problems with the remotes. So to save board replacement and all kind of guessing where the electronic problems may be I went with a new unit. I will say the old was still working with the wall button. I was surprised that more components had to be replaced then I expected. The old wall switch was not a match and the distance from the rail to the sprocket gear was a little different than the original. However, after a repetitively easy installation the unit work cleanly, quietly, and smoothly. The newer adjustments were much easier to set up and everything was already to go right out of the box. Nice deal.Read full review

Works smoothly, however I'm concerned about the weakness of the rail. Not near as strong as it should be and it bows badly when the door closes, leaving the chain sagging badly. Also, plan on buying a "bridge" if you have a button control on your auto's visor if you want to be able to use it. Or you can clip on the new one and use it which works fine. Didn't find the directions to be clear, so be very careful when putting the rail and chain together........or do it over like I did. Since this was a replacement I was able to forego using the new wiring and sensors as the old ones worked perfectly. Also, I was able to use my old brackets to attach to the control unit which was a blessing, and it took most of the day but was able to install the unit by myself. Have used it about 10 days and still working fine.Read full review

I just installed this today, as a direct replacement for a 20+ year old Sears chain-drive door opener. The footprint and attachment points were identical, so I was able to keep the old chain and rail. The setup is much improved over the older controller - no need to play around with setting the end stops with a screwdriver. Just press and hold the limit set button, and then drive the door up and down to set the open and close limits. I also liked that it came with two remotes. Our garage is detached, so we use one in the house to open the door without having to go through the garage side door. The other goes in the car. I'd like to see if it will last as long as the old one, but we will be moving this year.

I bought and installed two of these openers for 2 single panel garage doors. The assembly instructions were thorough and easy to follow, All the parts necessary to install the doors are in the kit that comes with the motor. The 1/2 HP motor is very powerful and easily lifts the single stall doors. Excellent quality for the price.
