I purchased this used, unlocked telephone for my daughter's 19th birthday. While testing it out, I fell in love with the ease of use of this phone for messaging, music, multitasking and reliability of it's 3G internet connection. I was a bit disappointed that the telephone did not include wifi, which is noted as a feature on many websites. This would have been a wonderful feature for my daughter to use during her lunch hours at hot spot locations. With that said, the user friendly design and features that are most important to my text happy teen makes up for my wifi disappointment. This phone is not a touchscreen, but the lack of this feature absolutely does not effect the ease of use. The display is large and vivid and enjoyable to view. The navigation buttons that are present when the phone is closed, easily navigates through all of the phones settings, as well as accesses and navigates through the internet with ease. Scrolling is smooth with an occasional lag. The keyboard size is surprisingly accurate for such small keys. It is accessed by sliding the screen up. The keys are a bit noisy and tight, but in my opinion, serves the same purpose as the vibration upon touch on touchscreens... confirms the key has been pressed. There are many modifiable features such as themes, picture and sound contact identifiers, wallpapers, ringtones and reminder alarms. It also boast many input options for adding contact information in the address book. You can also modify how to answer or end calls... opening, closing slider, etc. The multitasking feature which I love on my LG Incite is available on this Strive and is a much welcomed feature. The built in mp3 player can be placed on the desktop for quick access. This phone features bluetooth which is important to me for hands free car speaker use. After reading previous reviews, my experience with battery life was more than expected. I made it through hours of internet surfing and setting up the phone and still had 2 bars of battery life left. I had reservations when purchasing this phone due to reviews that stated problems with the battery life and the phone turning off by itself and/or rebooting itself... When I received the phone, yes, I immediately had a problem with the phone rebooting itself every 30 seconds. I resolved this issue by inserting a micro sd card for extra memory. Even after I removed the memory card, it continued to perform correctly. I suspect that this is an problem that arises from the unlocking process. Pros: Ease of texing; big, colorfully vibrant screen; impressive external speaker for music and audio files; multitasking; design, qwerty keyboard (which reduces my fear of her texting and driving); bluetooth enabled. Cons: No wifi; bloated with AT&T saleware!; although the phone has a comfortable weight and a smooth slider, as other reviewers, I do complain of the quality of construction of the case... shiny, cheap plastic that can be scratched easily. I would recommend this phone for anyone that primarily uses the phone for texing and listening to music. Dear Daughter loves it!Read full review
This is a very good messaging phone, recommended for users who want a QWERTY phone without the 3g data plan and application nonsense (yes, to some of us, smartphones are nonsense!) In purple, its very cute and trendy and does not look cheap. Also very sturdy. I was impressed by the camera's quality. The battery life is pretty good too, has lasted me two and a half days and still hasn't died, but also, I'm not using the phone's internet capabilities, so that might run you out sooner. The threaded conversation for texting is an awesome feature, but if you text one person heavily, you might be deleting and clearing conversations more often than not, because the conversation can take a while to load if you have a lot of texts with one person. The keyboard is very nice as well, the keys are nice and soft and if you text heavily, it won't wear down your fingers :) Also on phone calls, very good call clarity. I understood and was understood by my caller quite well, much better than on my last phone Some things that so far I do not like about the phone are the sound profiles. There are external volume keys, but you have to set what you want the sound profile to be, and on this phone the 'Silent' profile is either vibrate all or silent all, you can't switch between the two without changing the settings, which is very irritating to me, especially since the vibrate on this phone is quite loud and is not a good substitute for silent mode. I'm also annoyed by the large center at&t symbol button going straight to internet if accidentally pressed, because I do not have a data plan and I pay by kilobyte, so I do not want it connecting all the time! This is a good phone for someone who is easily satisified, but wants some features. For me this phone had everything--multiple alarm settings, calendar, slide out keyboard, and threaded conversations, with the plus side that the case was a cute color and the hardware was not too cheaply constructed.Read full review
I bought this phone to replace my Samsung A737. It's an excellent phone for texting, and has a durable keyboard. The camera takes really good pics. The speaker could be better, it lacks clarity, but I cured that with a bluetooth headset. However, I will say, this phone has a VERY HIGH occurance of "failed messages" and "Network unavailable" errors, (even when you have 3-5 bars of signal) The errors seems to be more frequent when bluetooth connectivity is turned on, but even when it's not it happens often enough to be irritating. I send between 300-500 texts a day, and it happens about 25% of the time, and I have to resend the message. Love the screen size, clarity, and user-friendliness of this phone. I do wish it had a way to access things like your notes, and bluetooth when in a call, as it's very inconvenient to have to hang up, turn bluetooth on, connect your headset, then call the person back. Overall if your main concern is texting, this is a great little phone, it just has a few quirks.Read full review
The strive is a good looking phone and it's not too big. It also has great colors and graphics. The camera takes great pictures, although it's a little hard to focus. The camcorder is also good and the sound quality is terrific. I really like the conversation thread in messaging and find it really helpful. What I really don't like is that the keys are small and close together, which makes texting with accuracy a little more difficult. If you have any problems with your hands like arthritis, etc. this is not the phone for you. I will be passing this on to my husband as soon as I can just because of the key size. The menus are a little confusing, and it's hard to find certain things, but that's not too terrible. It's kind of generic in that you can't set themes, and there are no emoticons that I have found yet. But other than that, it is a pretty good phone. The size of the keys is the biggest factor against it and why I would not purchase it again.Read full review
I originally bought the Samsung Flight, which is more or less this phone with the touch screen. I hated it because of the way the touch screen reacted. It turns out that this is a MUCH better phone with even more features. The battery life is great, the sound quality is wonderful. The keyboard is big enough that even big fingers can type without a problem. I don't like the way the text conversations are shown. They can be a bit difficult to follow with the layout used. Other than that, it is a great phone.
