I caught a 300# halibut with it. Fought like Sonny Listen. Not a flaw. Drag was perfect, setting the stage for a battle. On and on it went. Day passes into night and still the combatants forged on. Finally, in the rising sun, there he was, gaffed, but with hatred gleaming in salty, evil eyes. Then, I hit him in the head with a baseball bat - end of problem and delicious! Nice reel, too. I own three of them. Yeah, I'm a fan.

The posts before mine are absolute correct. Strong steady drag make this the ideal reel for big game fishing. Mine is 5 years old and works like new. I have maintained it well though. Changed the pawl once, drag washer replacement, and lube/clean regularly. These are essential tasks if you love your reel (any reel) and want to keep it ready for many years. I bought it for its long casting ability Because I had been fishing from riverbank) but would never change now that I have seen how strong and smooth the drag is. In 5 years I probably have brought to the shore (conservatively speaking 700 chinook, chum, and sockeye, among others). When I have a 30lb plus chinook on the reel makes almost unfair to the fish. I like it that way.

Calcutta reels from Shimano are excellent reels that last a very long time. I have two that are at least 10 years old and they still work as good as when they came out of the box. This past year I purchased a model 200 and a model 400 and they work as smooth as silk. Great product for a fair price.

This is a commercial style reel. It is not bullet proof but can be repaired or customized. Like other things that last long they will quit making them, companies are in business to sell things.
