The wording in the description suggests that this magazine is made of steel. It is not. It is manufactured of a polymer plastic just like the original Ruger magazine is for this rifle. Plastic is susceptible to cracking and breaking particularly with heavier use and freezing temperatures. Steel magazines while more expensive to manufacture can dent and may rust. I purchased this additional magazine as a backup to the plastic polymer one that came with the rifle. It fits the rifle, in a simple non firing test of the magazine ammunition cycled without incident. However, to be accurate the word steel should be edited out of the future descriptions of this product.

Very cheap quality for a Ruger product! The plastic follower broke the first time I loaded it with ammo!! This Ruger magazine is a joke!! None made yet with better materials, so just stuck with this type or can't use the Ruger American rifle !!!

The mags for the R.A.R. are good (actual mags from Ruger). They feed like the oem ones do and fit like the oem ones. The shipping was slow. It took a few days for them to ship, but once they did, maybe 3 or 4 days until I got them. If I need more, but not in a hurry, I'd buy then again.

So far ,don't have shells sticking in magazine like original one. Time will tell, but for such a great rifle you'd think the magazine would be of better quality and functionality ! Ruger should replace them for free with an exchange so they coul examine and improve this part.
