A clever movie involving a stellar cast of players. There is Sam (Robert DeNiro) probably ex-CIA, and Vincent (Jean Reno), who never really says, but more than likely is Ex-French counter espionage or Interpol. Stelland Skarsgaard is Gregor, the Ex-KGB Russian computer expert, and Larry (Skip Suddith), another American who is the transportation expert. Another early associate is Spence (Sean Bean), who is supposedly a British Demolitions expert, but is identified as a fraud, and subsequently dismissed. They are all working for Dierdre (Natascha McRlhone), the IRA liaison to Shamus O'Roark, an internationally wanted terrorist. They have all been summoned to a warehouse in Paris to formulate a plan to steal the unknown contents of a case from a group of gangsters in the South of France. Exactly is in the case, no one ever says, but the body count is going to be large. The Russians want the case badly. When the team finally steals it, Gregor, the Russian, double-crosses the team and takes it for himself. He tries to kill the entire team with a fake case filled with explosives. A hunt for him begins as he is trying to sell the case to the Russians. The team breaks up the sale but Sam is wounded and Larry is killed by Shamus, who takes Gregor hostage to recover the case. Vincent takes Sam to a contact of his and he is treated for the gun shot wound. Vincent's friend also is able to locate Gregor. Deirdre and Shamus have Gregor. Gregor mailed the case to himself in Paris so they must keep him in order to retrieve the case from the Poste. Gregor is able to escape again and meets a group of Russian Gangsters who want to buy the case. It is to take place at an ice skating arena where a big name Russian skater is to perform. Everything is a double-cross, and this time Gregor is killed. Almost immediately, Shamus show up again, dressed like French police, and shoots the Russians and grabs the case. Deirdre is also dressed like police and waiting for him in a police car. Sam sees her and tells her to leave. She says that she will leave, but only if he will too. He tells her that he is still CIA and they are there to get Shamus. She leaves. Now trapped, Shamus shoots Sam and Vincent. Both are wounded again, but Shamus is killed and Sam gets the case. In the end, nobody ever finds out what was in the case. It was all an elaborate ruse by the CIA to get to Shamus.Read full review
The story very good. You can't get enough of Mr. DeNiro. However, the screenplay and directo especially the supporting cast is great. I recommend the movie to all. Sept. 24th, 2019 Diana Bell

I am biased because I like Robert DeNiro in most everything he does but here goes. A group of men with highly developed skills are called to a meeting in a deserted warehouse in Paris. Sam (Robert De Niro), an American, may be ex-CIA. Vincent (Jean Reno), the terminally cool Frenchman, is a mystery. Russian computer whiz Gregor (Stellan Skarsgaard) is presumably ex-KGB, and Spence (Sean Bean), a British demolitions man, and Larry (Skipp Suddith), another Yank, round out the team. They've been hired by the IRA, through liaison Deirdre (Natascha McElhone), to steal a briefcase of unknown contents somewhere in Europe. As the unit races from one spectacular location on the French Riviera to another, the body count mounts, some Russian gangsters get into the act, and the betrayals come fast and furious. In a rare comic moment, Sam stitches up his own bullet wound, and asks a friend to finish before he passes out. RONIN features an exceptional cast, sumptuous locations, and the kind of realistic car chases and action scenes. Thank you for this opportunity to tell about one of my favorite classic movies, Rick aka fireman.rickRead full review

Ronin is the Japanese word used for Samurai without a master. In this case, the Ronin are outcast specialists of every kind, whose services are available to everyone for money. Dierdre undoubtedly from Ireland hires several Ronin to form a team in order to retrieve an important suitcase from a man who is about to sell it to the Russians. After the mission has been completed successfully, the suitcase immediately gets switched by a member of the team who seems to work into his own pocket. The complex net of everyone tricking everyone begins to surface slowly, and deadly. The cast is good and the direction is smooth and keeps the story flowing and it'll keep you guessing right up to the very end about just exactly what is going on and who everyone is. Then, there are the car chases and they are awesome. De Niro and Reno are brilliant in this as of course you would expect from two such excellent actors. This movie is enjoyable and pacy piece of entertainment.Read full review
