If you ever loved playing a game where you can beat up the monsters in fun rpg engaging battles but still have all the story elements while still being in the future. This is going to be your game, not better than PSO for the gamecube.

There were several small abrasions on the data surface of the disc. Tried to play the game but froze multiple times.

I like the Phantasy Star series. I liked Phantasy Star Online on the Dreamcast and the GameCube, and I like Phantasy Star Universe on the PS2. The only real problem I have with this installment is that in single player you have to play through several levels of the story mode before you can create your own character and play. Story mode spends a lot of time in cut scenes - not so much that it's unbearable, but almost. The graphics are good, not great. The story is good, and the selection of character types, although narrow, should have something for just about anyone. Game play goes smoothly, and holds the attention of everyone in my house, from 5 years old to adult. If you have a game played up to the level required (4, I think) for creating your own characters, replayability is good. But if you have to play up the levels the cut scenes become tedious. Once you've seen them, they're of little value. On a 4 out of 5 scale I would give the following ranks: Story: 3 Graphics: 4 Game Play: 4 Character selection: 4 Replayability: 4 (3 if have to work back up to character creation level)Read full review
This is a pretty ok game. Vs PSO it has alot of good qualities that if put into PSO would of made it even better. But overall PSO was better to me, even playing the offline version. PSU (this version) is kind of dumbed down and they throw story into it forcing you to go along. Not to mention, it's my opinion that they butchered mags. You had an adorable tiny thing that you fed and it grew as you went along. In PSU you got a mag but it stayed in the room. You could feed it but you needed tons of money and you didn't have to wait for time to elapse to feed but it was so slow I found it completely mind numbing to even try to do it. I think PSO might of even been worth it to play with the adorable mags. If you're looking for the mags in PSU you'll be disappointed as I was. If you're just looking for a game to play this is about average. It's pretty fun. Mildly challenging. Story very average though (predictable, simple, kinda dull), and you HAVE to play as Ethan Waber in order to make your character and advance with your character. Which can be annoying. Very average game.Read full review
Game has been tested and works great. Though there were only about two pauses on some occasions during cutscenes, but that might just be my PS2, as resetting it helped the cutscenes play normally. Other than that, I've gotten through the first chapter with no errors so far, and I will report if there is anything else, but for now, it works flawlessly.
