I'm teaching myself sewing machine repair. With no one in my area left to apprentice under, I'm learning all kinds of little things about various machines and their manufacturers. My Pfaff 2030/2040/2042 was given to me as a giunea pig. Couldn't tension it to save my life and wound up having to sand hidden corrosion out of the hook and race assembly. I got that done and retimed the machine just to have it eat the motor belt. Guess what's no longer being manufactured and there's no another belt out there that's even close to working. I've since had to resolder bits back into the motherboard, replaced the foot pedal and power cord, accidentally broken some tiny plastic parts, and have been left incredibly frustrated. This machine cost a bloody fortune when it was brand new. It's engineered to fall apart after about 3-5 years of use, and that engineering is designed to be unrepairable so these big-name manufacturers can sell you another over the top expensive machine and they'll gladly give you the 27.9% interest note to buy it on. People respond to badges. Just like a certain three-pointed star on the grille of a sports car means something to those who are brand conscious, Pfaff, Bernina, Husqvarna/Viking, are all skating by on nothing more than people who see the badge as a point of pride and bragging. I hear people go on and on about "needing" all the bells and whistles on the newest machines. My personal machine is a Singer 503a (Rocketeer) from 1961 and it has all the cams and feet, it's all metal, no computers to conk out, and it will outlive my 20 yr old Pfaff (if I can find a parts machine to caniballize) as well as anything these premium companies roll off their assembly lines today. It's a pity that's the way this works because what little I did get to dink around on my Pfaff, it seemed like a pleasant sewing experience.Read full review

This machine has all the details you need to complete a wide variety of projects. It has a huge range of specialty stitches including button hole, zig-zag, stretch, and decortative. The digital output makes it easy to configure the exact stitch type and size you want. I love the wide sewing bed that opens up to reveal convenient storage. Additionally, the sewing bed is removable revealing a free arm that allows for sewing in tight areas (i.e. a sleeve hem).
