This is by far the best filmed version of this classic Jane Austen novel. Anyone who is a fan of her beautiful, thought provoking stories of life in the 19th century should want to own this DVD. I feel it is a great addition to my DVD library and was the last piece in my Jane Austen collection.

We have two other versions of this video. They are far superior to this one! The wardrobes for the characters are OK but the characters are, for the most part, stilted and not very believable in their roles. The character of Ann in particular was played by an actress at least 15 years older than she should have been for the part. The hairdos on the women are not 'period,' rather they look as if they were influenced by the Disco era.

Loved the costumes of the era, loved the absence of adult themes, the acting was not very good. Rather choppy scene changes. Reminded me of a B film in its overall quality. Some of the scenes looked as if they were filmed by a cell phone or a video camera (especially the outside scenes). The main players were supposedly from a very, very affluent family, but the scenes from inside their home appeared cheaply put together and not lavish as one would expect.
What can I say? It's Jane Austen, so of course it's a great DVD based on an even greater book! Though not as current nor quite as captivating as the later Sense & Sensibility and Pride & Prejudice DVDs, Persuasion is still a terrific movie well worth having. The heroine found love 8 years before the movie opens with a man who was personally wonderful but positionally inferior. She succumbs to the pressures of family and social standing by declining his proposal of marriage, but never stops loving him. Hurt, he leaves to find his fortune and returns nearly a decade later a man of wealth, while the heroine's family has fallen on hard times. She has never married. Does he understand why? Has she lost him forever? He has never married, but can he forgive? Then, as he begins to spend more and more time with a certain young lady, one is left to wonder whether all hope for the star-crossed lovers is lost forever. A classic Jane Austen premise ... don't miss it.Read full review
I love the Jane Austen's book and have read it several times. I was so over whelmed by this BBC production's felicity to the original source, I cried through most of the video.
