Let me first state I am extremely experienced in hobby grade R/C and worked for two years at a (good) hobby shop selling Tamiya, Traxxas, Losi, Duratrax and more. I've owned over a hundred RC cars personally. Normally I wouldn't consider a Ch!nese made vehicle, but I took a chance on this one since it was too cheap to resist. The car is of course criminally similar to a Vaterra Twin Hammers in design, sans the 2-speed trans. I wanted a Twin Hammers but couldn't stomach the price. What I received was a pleasant suprise. The chassis is well thought out with reinforcement in key areas and a weight to help balance. A flexy front bumper should absorb most impacts. Full ball bearings throughout was a real suprise, plus the CVD-type driveshafts up front. Shocks are not actually oil filled but if you added the o-rings to seal them, they would work - they already have the pistons inside and working preload collars. Wheels seem to be real beadlocks and use an industry standard 12mm hex for interchangeability. The ESC/radio unit is an integrated type to keep costs down. I would surmise it has a low voltage cutoff for the included 2S Li-Po, so you can use any pack with 18650 cells. Steering servo (5-wire, integrated) is a little smaller than a standard size but still should be an industry standard form factor if you choose to replace it. The motor is a 540 type. There is room to upgrade to a mod motor, brushless, or even a 550, but there is no provision for adjusting gear mesh so you are stuck with the stock pinion size. Motor mount is metal, nice touch. All gears in the vehicle are nylon (except the brass pinion), but they should hold up alright with the light weight. Driving impressions: The 540 provides lots of torque in this light chassis. Punching the throttle from a stop on a fresh battery resulted in one front wheel coming off the ground. Lots of torque steer! Top speed is great. Far faster than any toy class, on par with an entry hobby class like a brushed Rustler or Stampede. Handling on asphalt isn't ideal - the soft shocks and grippy tires result in a flip if you turn at speed. Oil shocks would help a lot. Off road it shines, though you may want to adjust the suspension some to bring the nose up. Battery life is good but don't expect a half hour unless you're driving slow. You should easily be able to find higher capacity packs. After hard use, the motor did get pretty hot. I would suggest adding a clip-on heatsink. If you are an RC hobbyist you will be pleased for the price. If you're a toy-class user you'll be thrilled. I would say one thing - before you buy, check the availability of replacement parts. The instructions do have a good breakdown with part numbers, but make sure parts are available before you buy any RC car. You will need them!Read full review

I bought the fy03 last month. Thought it was good for the money. I watched a ton of videos comparing the fy03 against the wltoys buggy. I went with the fy03. All the vids said thay are about equal. This month i bought the 12423. I wanted the truck over the buggy. They are the same underneath the body. Boy was i suprised. This truck is beafy and fast. I should have went with the wltoys first. Wouldn't buy the fy03. I recommend this truck to anyone who is looking for their first rc. And the people who has been rcing for awhile. At this price you can't go wrong.

Watched some videos on this truck before I decided to buy it . All I can say is WOW right out of the box it is just like advertised. Wicked torque, hangs a wheelie at full throttle starts . It's a blast in the snow .Definitely need to buy extra batteries because it's too much FUN to stop!
