I lived photography for a large sloce of my professional life. Leicas, Rolleiflexes, Pentax, Bronica, finally settling on Nikons in 1972 with a large bag of accessories (flash, lenses, bellows, filters, viewfinders, meters, etc.). This Olympus SP590UZ is clearly smarter and more versatile than me and all of my film equipment combined! I aim and shoot and the camera does the rest! It fits my hand almost organically, weighs about half of what my Nikon Photomic Ftn weighs, and, with a 26-to-676 equivalent zoom range, replaces my four heavy lenses with one. My Nikons are great film cameras but this Olympus has moved me into the 21st century and restored my love for the art of light manipulation! It may take me some time to learn the instrument and to relearn all of the elements of fine photography but I'm very willing to move into the future with this super-camera. Who knew, in 1972, that Olympus would produce a camera that even does your darkroom trickery inside the camera! I am amazed! I also bought one for my artist wife! Read full review

My dog devoured my first one in her first year - 2011. I have had several other cameras since, but I have been trying to get another one ever since. Bought this one for me, then I bought a second one I was lucky enough to find for a young lady just beginning in photography. I highly recommend this camera! It can be as complicated as you are skilled enough to need, but is light and easy to hold and anyone can use it without knowing photography. It is full featured too.

Great "old" digital camera. Takes uSD cards and has 12MP resolution with excellent zoom optics. One of the last of the affordable digital cameras with a "viewfinder" so you can actually see what an image by putting the camera to your eye! Also, this takes regular AA batteries. With the new AA Lithium rechargeable batteries, I get Lithium rechargability but can put in a regular AA in a pinch!

I purchased this camera to replace the same model which I have been using for several years, but dropped and broke. I really like the zoom range and all the features, menu options, etc. It uses the xD card so I can switch with my Olympus E-330 SLR. Two things are annoying: the lans cap is loose fitting (necessary due to the lens action) but there is no way to secure it other than the cord, which leaves it hanging in the way;it would also be nice to use a single rechargeable battery rather than the four AA's.
This camera replaces a stolen Olympus C725 before that I was a high end 35mm user. This Sp-590uz is great for beginner or Pro users, easy point a click pictures or manual settings your choice. Many preset setups for different types of pictures makes it almost fool proof. You can even add lenses to it for super wide angle or telephoto, I added a glass cover to protech the LCD screen, and a camera bag is on the way to hold the extra lenses, camera and battery charger with extra batteries. You can't go wrong with camera.
