This knife has the good high-carbon steel that holds an edge better than stainless. It appears to have the classic Ontario Knife quality, made in USA. The 8-inch blade length seems to be the only size that OKC makes in this style (?) ... this limits it's utility. There's scant knuckle room for medium-sized hands, during the chopping maneuvers one expects to be able to do with this style knife; another 1/4" of handle height above the cutting surface would be an improvement. People with smaller hands will likely be more satisfied with this knife.

Knife arrive extremely sharp. However, I'm a knife fanatic and, after a few minutes on my stone and strop, the thing is scary sharp. It is a wonderful knife for the money. Warning: Be aware that this knife is made of 1095 carbon steel. It IS NOT STAINLESS!!! If you aren't willing to take the proper care after each use, it will rust. Moreover, over time, it will take on a patina. If you want a care free knife you can abuse, I recommend buying a bottle of Birchwood Casey Perma Blue cold gun bluing and giving the blade a deep blue finish that will also shield it from rusting.

I have a knife of my deceased mother. It is an Old Hickory and it has outlasted all other knives (high quality!) that I have bought. I am looking forward to my new knife acquiring the patina that my mother’s has.

Happy to find this classic knife still in production, or re-production. Great value, and the wife/chef says this knife is comfortable, balanced, etc.
