I like the overall concepts of how people with disabilities don't want or need pity. I just found the idea of them using the terms "crips" and "supercrips" to be derogatory. This a great tool for people who work with people with disabilities and those who have not because it shows them that despite having a disability these are people who can succeed.
I initially purchased this book because it was required reading for my Psychololgy of Exceptional Children Summer Course. Although it was required reading i found that i enjoyed the book throuroughly and would have read the book cover to cover even if it had not been required. It gave you a glimpse of what it is like to have a disability, or special ability, and how others would look at you or treat you. It had many quotes from diabled people, and interview with those who have "been there".
I am in Occupational Therapy School and this was a required text that we had to read within the first two weeks of class and then we had a discussion about it. I think it is a great book, even for those not going into any profession at all. It is an eye-opening book that really lets you learn about how much the disabled population has done for themselves.
