I've owned many optics and rifle scopes over the years but, I really think at this point, for the money and what you get the SHV F1 can't be beat. Love the FFP reticle, center only illumination (actually my preference to total illumination). I had been a 100% Leupold fan for over a decade, went back and forth on what I wanted for this particular rifle, felt the SHV F1 deserved a shot and although I still LOVE my Leupy's...I have another rifle on the way and looking in to another one of the NF SHV F1s. Crystal clear glass, positive clicks, no brainer zeroset, extremely rugged (only downside, a bit heavy at 30oz for a 14x high end magnification), holds it's zero after repeated recoil, and over $1000 less than scopes with the same or less then features. I love this scope! Don't buy it so I know there will be one available still when I can afford another:)Read full review

Being a Leupold fan for years, I did always want to try a Nightforce. I never tried a FFP and said what the heck let’s give this model a try on my AR308 build. I absolutely have no regrets this is a sweet scope. Holds zero as expected. Glass is crystal clear throughout the magnification range. Field of view and eyebox is pretty good. This is one area that my Leupolds are immediately noticeably superior but with that said I still like this scope a lot and it will stay on this rifle barring any failures. High quality as expected, dials are silky smooth, I like and got accustomed to throw levers and added a NF throw lever but does not need it by any means. The illumination is nice for low light conditions but don’t expect to use it with any normal daylight even at darker targets I shaded areas. Another area that My VX6HD is better, actually bright enough to be useful in certain daylight dark target/ shady situations. However those precise situations are pretty rare and not the primary use of illuminated reticle section so I don’t feel my minor nit picking of this scope deserves a deduction of a star. Still a 4.75-5 star scope in this price range to me. Despite getting a deal on my comparable Leupolds etc @ normal prices the models I’m comparing are 300-500 more and this F1 is front focal plane which I prefer second now that I have some time behind a FFp however I still have no regrets whatsoever, the complaints are only to give my best unbiased details about it and If I didn’t have anything to compare this to, I would not be able to nit pick it at all. It’s a wonderful scope and it should stay on its host weapon forever until failure or sold. If you’re looking for a FFp , don’t even hesitate. If you’re on the fence about FFp and have the ability to look through and mess with one. Absolutely try that first cause it’s not for everybody. If you don’t have the luxury to then it’s still worth a shot, I still prefer second focal plan as my first choice however I fell in love with this scope anyway. It will be my only FFP scope. I've either owned or used just about every type of Nightforce out there. This is probably my favorite. I actually prefer the capped windage knob. I also much prefer the "fast adjust" focus, versus the traditional Nightforce focus.

What else can be said. I have 6 Nightforce scopes in my collection. Best bang for the buck.
