    VIVA Mullard CV4004

VIVA tests these and writes the voltages on the box, that's a nice touch! They sound great to me (guitar amp) and tested strong in my old tube tester. Great value and customer service. Five stars!

  • Top critical review

    OK tube

Read other reviews & purchased expecting some major difference from the Mesa I'm using. Can't tell any difference really. But it works & sounds fine so I guess it's a better value due to lower price than Mesa. Just a little disappointed I didn't hear the difference I was hoping for.

  • A tube for Jazz?

The gain is just ok with these tubes but they lend them self or better suited for amps that have a harsh bite or like a champ/princeton that is just too crunchy, these will definitely take the edge off. If you are a Jazz guitarist then these are going to give you the softer edge with good definition. I prefer the Matched Gain JJ's for a better bite and gain, but the best tube IMHO is the Genalex Gold Lion Matched Gain, across the board. They cost almost twice as much, and they deliver. For Marshall amps and rocking a JCM 800 the Matched Gain JJ's are the ticket. They deliver in the 800s and give a bit more bite than the Genalex. But Keep in mind that the Preamps are critical for the sound of your guitar or bass. If you have a crappy pair of Power tubes then you are really wasting your ...

  • "Like looking at the World on a bright blue sky day!"

I installed these on my vintage Marantz Tube pre-amp. it took several hours maybe 40 hours or so for the tube to warm up to a ripe sounding stereo that I always remembered why I would not sell this old tube amp. After the 50-100 listening break-in period these tubes literally sing out the low and high notes with such a three dimensional sound stage which puts you right next to the musicians in their recording studio or stage. My neighbor described it best, he said: "It's like looking out a dirty window on a clear sunny day vs. you opening up the window or actually going outside to look at the same view, it is almost Heavenly" I think that is the best description of what we heard vs. the newer transistorized or Chipped modern day audio amplifiers. These two little tube have ...

  • These are great sounding higher gain quiet 12AX7's. Highly recomend for a high gain guitar amp!!

Was looking for a fat sounding quiet new production 12AX7 an from the reviews these looked interesting. Replaced several of the factory JJ's in my PRS MT 15 head with these. Wound up with a pair in V2 and V3 for the gain section of that amp and it both opened up the tone and brought clarity and noticeably dropped the noise floor. Was quite pleased and had bought 4 just to try so tried the other pair in the V1 and 2 slot on my Mesa Boogie DC 5 head. Very quiet fat tone and a lot of overtones and clarity in that amp. Am very pleased and will order a few more of these. So among the best sounding and quietest of the current production 12AX 7's I have tried.
