I bought this book about 3 weeks ago and it is an excellent reference and guide to North American birds in the Western Region of the U.S. I bought it because my brother has the National Audubon Society Field Guide to North American Birds of the Eastern Region and it is great. I love the actual photographs of all the birds, male and female. It is very imformative about nesting, states where they are seen, where they winter, etc. It is one of the best books for birders that I have seen. You won't be disappointed!
I think this book is pretty good. I would like if there were more actual photos.. and less drawings. Its pretty good. I have found lately however that my phone app is easier than using one of these books in the field. At home, looking up and learning, this is great... but for hands on application while birding.. its too heavy to carry around.
I bought this Field Guide to North American Birds because I wanted to get familiar with the many birds we have here in our mountain home and this book fit the bill perfectally. Already I have identified birds that I wasn't sure of. There are wonderful photos and characteristics of the birds are also listed. Very informative and I would recommend to anyone looking for a good manual on birds.
Great content, easy to use guide for the back yard birder.

A must have for anyone who enjoys birds. I see some at my feeder and wonder what they are, not any more! I love to fill up the feeder and just be entertained for hours, and learn a little in the process. I have a collection of many of the books, on everything to medicinal plants, to insects. I love to go camping, and always bring my books. There is a bird that sounds like a horse whinny in a tree. How fun. Don't leave home without them. Also, bring those binoculars!
