I am new to the 18650 battery and Nitecore Products. I purchased a Nitecore light at a discounted price and was very pleased with the light. I bought another brand of charger that is very similar to this Nitecore D2. The charger charged faster than the D2 and the batteries got a lot hotter. I purchased the D2 which charges the batteries just a little slower. In the long run, I think this is a better for the batteries. After all the batteries are used in a flashlight, and I bought spares. There is no way I could discharge a fresh battery before the other one was back to 100%. The readout is very informative and the charger is very easy to use. I ended up buying two of these as they will charge a variety of different size batteries including AA, AAA, AAAA, and C cells. The only other ones I have tried the charger on AA Eneloop and RCR123 cells, which the charger did a good job topping off the cells. I am very satisfied with charger performance and ease of operation.Read full review

I don't like it. I thought I'd like the newer digital, colorful display/ screen. But the lower quality "overall" out weights the pretty screen. This charger made it obvious to me that Nitecore now is going with the absolute cheapest manufacturing route. The contact slides are really rough in there respective tracks, the plastic housing just looks and feels cheaper. I had a perfectly fine pair of batteries in it for hours & the charger just flashed green forever. Took them out & put them back in & it then started working. I think the springs or the way the contacts sit on the battery end contacts just isn't near as good as say the I2 I have, as I never had this connection issue before. Should have bought the older I2!

I bought this charger after doing a good bit of research and reading reviews on some tech forums. I recently got into buying some high end LED Flashlights that take rechargeable batteries of various odd sizes and some standard ones as well and I wanted a charger for them that was safe and efficient without having to spend an arm and a leg. This Nitecore D2 fits that bill perfectly as it will charge almost any type of rechargeable battery from lithium to Ni Cad or Ni MH. This includes the 18650, 14500, RCR123's and many others as well as standard rechargeable AA, AAA and C type batteries. So for a very low price this charger will do almost any charging job you may have in mind. I've now been using this unit for about three weeks and I check the voltage on my batteries before and after charging for proper voltage. It has consistently done exactly what it is supposed to do. As you may know, some rechargeable batteries can be finicky about being over charged or undercharged and this charger has special circuitry to prevent any problems or safety issues by knowing what kind of battery you put in it automatically but switching itself off when a battery reaches its optimum charge. It also recognizes if you put the battery in wrong and will not try to charge a battery improperly loaded (reverse polarity). If you have a lot of batteries there is a D4 model that will hold four batteries instead of the two this one holds. For my needs the D2 serves just fine as I will rarely ever need to charge more than two batteries at a time There is also a model that will plug into your car's cigar lighter so you can charge in your vehicle. This particular model is hard wired to plug into a 120 V AC wall outlet. The unit is very well built, even has a night time mode that allows you to turn off its digital read out and LED's so it won't keep you awake if you want to charge your batteries while you sleep. Nitecore is a well known and respected maker of high end LED Flashlights and chargers for the batteries that drive them so don't let the price fool you this is no "cheapie" unit that will improperly charge your batteries and be a safety issue. It has all the safety circuits built right in and all for a very modest price. I'm a huge fan of Nitecore lights and of this charger. I can think of absolutely no cons to write about this charging unit and I have no hesitancy to recommend it highly to others who need a quality charger that will charge many types of batteries safely and efficiently. I purchased a Nitecore D2 on June 1, 2016, and it's still going strong. It's been charging 4 LG Chocolate 3000 mAH 18650 Li/Ion batteries in rotation pretty much 24/7. Occasionally I also use it to charge AA and AAA NiCad/NiMH batteries. There are no issues I can think of. The springs are still strong, it charges at a decent rate, the display is still as clear as day one, etc. I can't compare this against other charges, as this is the only one I have, but it seems to be a good one and I can't complain :)

I have owned and used this charger for over two years now and couldn't be happier. I charge mostly 18650 batteries and 14500 batteries with it. But have also charged 18350's, 16340's and AA rechargeable batteries. All of which charge with great ease. I love that I can set the charger to trickle charge any battery. It hasn't let me down yet. Matter of fact. I used it last night to charge two 14500's.
