I remember being so excited that Reba was going to be performing this song during a sporting event back in the day. Not a sports guy but others were watching and Reba peaked my interest. Clearly my memory of her version had faded over time. While not unlistenable- the original version is highly more enjoyable. 80's/90's dance diva Brenda k. Starr recorded this song in 1991 for her third album "By Heart". Her version has a more freestyle/pop feel to it. This I find interesting as Reba's cd single lists the song as being written in 1997. 6 years AFTER Brenda's version. Like I said interesting. Anyway- Reba's version while nice suffers from what alot of her music has for decades. Her phrasing & over-phrasing. "Cathy's Clown" is an example of this. That song is a classic but she has repeated the same performance on 99% of all of her recordings since then and that was like 1986 or something. I am a Reba fan. Musically and her acting. Her sitcom was fantastic!! Esp. Barbara Jean!! I certainly do not regret making this purchase. I simply prefer the original. I applaud Reba's heart and efforts for bring the cause of the Sal. Army to the foreground all the same.Read full review
