We loved Olivia and the Missing Toy - our toddler chuckles out load when we read it so we decided to check out a few more Olivia books. Olivia forms a band, published in June of this year- by Ian Falconer has great promise...out title character, a rather precocious little pig Called Olivia is back to her usual self trying to right the world and make things to her linking! When her family tell her she is off to see fireworks - she looks forward to the band - and when told there will be no band, sets out to make one herself!! Parents will chuckle as they see their child and perhaps themselves once upon a time, in this independent , determined young lady - or make that pig!! The illustrations by famed New Yorker Cartoonist are hysterical - I love the parents look of angst or their deadpan features and laughed my head off at Olivia and her lipstick pose!!! The bold and enlarged text also does well at creating drama in the book! The only problem I had was deciding who this book is best targeted to - my toddler is maybe too young and got little out of this, and I found the writing to be compromised at the extend of the wonderful illustrations! The cartoons would be funny in a newspaper and as is , entertained me, but the humor and sarcasm that they convey would be lost on many children and you really do need the illustrations as well as the text ot get the story across! I love this series, but this book was not a favorite for me..sorry!Read full review
We've been hooked on Olivia books ever since the first self titled book. Every one has been SUCH a fun adventure. I bought this one for my 5 year old daughter for Christmas, she doesn't know that it's out yet, but she will be SOOO excited. Olivia is her very favorite book character. I highly recemond ANY Olivia books to all age children. Her favorite so far has been "...and the Missing Toy" She's always quoting it, it's great!
My granddaughters love the Olivia books and this one is no exception. It is one of their favorites!

We bought this book after enjoying other Olivia books and it does not disappoint! There are parts of the story that are laugh out loud funny and the illustrations back that up as well. This book also has touching family moments and togetherness which we love. All in all, this is a great story. We read it almost every night.
My grandchildren ages 6, 4 and 2 love this book. So much so that after I had bought a copy, they practically wore it out and this was the second copy. Olivia is a precocious, prissy pig who really knows her own mind. When she decides to form a band, she plays all the instruments herself. The illustrations and dialogue are clever, and we adults love to read it to the children. Like the original "Olivia", you can't go wrong with this book. There is not one objectionable idea in the whole book, and, believe me, we are very picky about our kids' literature.
