I have been using old hickory knives for several years now. I love this knife, compared to some of the comp. The price factories great and they hold a good edge. When I do I have to sharpen it is easy to bring back that nice edge with minimal work. Old hickory is american made and thatskrd it even nicer. I know I am buying quality when I see the old hickory name. I do highly recommend their knives

I have had experience with Old Hickory in the past. Same quality now as before. Simple yet functional. Goes great with my lodge style home.

...this knife mad me sad. It was so terrific, I hated to use it for the purpose I bought it for, which was to cut it down and make a smaller, sturdy camping knife. No kidding, this knife was perfect in all respects, in my humble opinion. This is the second 14" O.H. I have bought, the first was to use as a field machete. As a machete it was, again, just awesome. Ontario....Respect....

I use this blade as a machete. Ontario uses either 1090 or 1095 for its steel and their Old Hickory blades are exceptio al. I have at least a half dozen of them. With use, they not only work harden but develop a patina that protects the steel. Exceptional. They have never chipped or bent on me. They keep a great edge and are eassy tp sharpen. This is a rare combination. Ontario found the recipe for the perfect high quality knife that you dont ha c e to pay an arm and a leg for. Gotta go, have to look for another Old Hickory knife to add to my collection.

I've been using "Old Hickory" knives for decades, so I already knew they were quality at a great price. I was cutting ham in the kitchen the other day, or should I say "trying" to cut it with a smaller knife. I managed to get enough sliced for everyone's sandwich and I decided that I needed a bigger knife, a really "BIG" knife. I went to ebay and my first search was for Old Hickory knives. I ordered the 14 inch butcher knife. When it arrived a few days later, it was indeed a "BIG" knife. I must say that I wasn't very impressed with the factory edge. It was so, so sharp, but not REALLY SHARP. I remedied that situation with a mill file and 800 grit wet/dry sandpaper mounted on my vibrating sander. Sharp???? THIS KNIFE IS SCARY SHARP NOW!!! I'ts sharp enough that I'm scared of it and I told my wife to be VERY careful IF she even used it. Now remember, it's 1095 high carbon steel....NOT STAINLESS STEEL, IT WILL RUST. Just wash it well and put a little oil on the blade (I use olive oil) and wipe it almost clean. This will inhibit rust. I highly recommend Old Hickory knives. They're built of quality materials and will last long enough for your kids to pass them to their kids. Read full review
