Bought for a cat - first mistake. Luckily we have a dog that's not short fur. Ideal for pets that are long fur. It's also better to put fresh batteries inside, rather than 'borrowing' two from the remote. The light on the comb is quite bright once pressed it's ready to be used on the fleas. Some fleas aren't quite dead or haven't touched the volts once you examine the comb, thus bringing a bit of fascination for when they do and the 'spark' hits them. To narrow it down this comb is ideal for a minor flea infestation, but as stated, not all fleas are dead when the comb is brushed through the animal.

This works very well on my short haired terrier, you can actually hear the "zapping" sound when it fids a flea. The only thing I would recommend to users is to clean the teeth after every use (I use a small nail brush) as the electronic parts of the teeth can clog with skin and debris from the dogs coat. Much better than chemicals or collars.

Read varying reviews and for the price thought I'd give this one a bash. Tried it on my dog and heard little cracks which seemed to indicate it was working, however, nothing was visible on the comb. Rolled the dog over and spotted a flea on his tummy so combed right over it and saw the flea go through the comb but flea just kept jumping away and didn't get zapped. Resorted to manual flea comb and wee blighter bit the dust! Worth a try I guess but didn't work.

In all the years that I have owned dogs this is the first time I have ever been inundated with fleas in the house! Scary stuff. During the past week the dog has been bathed, my house flea bombed, flea traps set, dog bedding washed...... This afternoon the flea comb arrived and I put in the batteries in readiness for the big comb through this evening. My poor old collie was not terribly impressed but I was! Pop, pop, pop - zapped fleas! Loving it. I went and got a magnifying glass to examine the hair taken out of the comb and was shocked at the amount of 'bodies' therein...... Now I don't know whether these were dead fleas from last night's bath still stuck in the coat .... but I am still impressed!
