This is used to replace the modern I had been renting from Comcast. The modem has the same features as the modem I rented. Four LAN ports, two telephone ports, two USB ports. It has battery backup to allow for use of your phone in case of power outage. It does not come with a battery; you have to purchase the battery separately. No More Xfinity/Comcast Modem Rental!
Replaced xfinity's $14/mo. rented modem/router & the swap was easy - EXCEPT that I couldn't get my xfinity voice/landline phone to work. The xfinity/Comcast person assisting me said they had done everything & I should probably contact Netgear. This was a refurbished unit & thinking it was faulty & would have to go back, I called xfinity again about reinstalling xfinity's original equipment. The agent I got this time promised to get my purchased unit working and voila! She did it! FYI, what was confusing & the first agent didn't make clear was that when activating, you need to use the factory-assigned user name & password from the factory sticker on the unit. I was incorrectly attempting to register with my personal xfinity account's user name & password.
