This Euro rack module is well built, can be used as reverb, delay and various sound manipulation which are sampled, allowing for effects from the musical to extreme noise. Samples can be saved and retrieved. Far more features and functions than the Dave Smith DSM03 which I also have. All the features of the Mutable Instruments Clouds but in a 8hp space. Check out clouds on YouTube. I'm a UK buyer so expect customs VAT, though in this case I wasn't charged!

At first wince, it seems like delay module, but Clouds is capable of a hell of a lot more. Its granular engine allows for not only really cool delay effects (especially in tape delay mode), but the ability to created layered and nuanced sounds effects in stereo. You can also trigger individual grains of various sizes (including the whole live or frozen buffer) with a gate. Thanks to Mutable's support for open source software, you're also able to install new firmware over the original. I highly recommend Parasites - it retains the base functionality of the original firmware, but adds an excellent erbe-verb style reverb mode and a multiband resonator mode that can produce the sounds of plucked chords. Highly recommended as an end of chain effects source!

The uBursts is a great first module and effects unit for all sorts of occasions. It blended right into my setup with effects sends/returns from the board (( in STEREO )) . One issue I had was not understanding how to get this module to do anything until I checked out Mutable Instruments Clouds user manual. This is quite handy to learn how to use this thing. Find out which button will select your Blends and then select each Blend and turn them up with the Blend knob. You’ll see the LED selected turn green, yellow and red indicating the amount of that blend. Basically turn up the wet/dry (water droplet) and the box shape amount and then slowly twist the Density knob left or right from 12 o’clock until you hear echoing and reverb. This unit has some touchy moments and harsh feedback can occur until you get used to why it feeds back. Then it is SUPER fun to play not just oscillators but music through it and add CV and gate to many of function inputs. I do enjoy the smooth rotation of the knobs and the knobs that came with this build are a nice grip and width except if you need to read the panel, try using smaller knobs. It is difficult to really perform when the knobs are so squished together but that was a trade off for conserving on HP space for a medium sized case. It is quite capable to twist the knobs from the sides rather that getting my knuckles in the way. Quality build and a fancy embossed panel. Thanks Momo Modular!Read full review

With Clouds being discontinued, the only way to get that essential granular delay/reverb/timeslip is by obtaining one of the diy-builder clones. At 8hp, they are less than half the size of the original Clouds, but still thin enough to fit in a skiff with ease. All of the functionality of the original is there. I chose "MicroBurst" because the panel layout is a little more sensible than "MicroClouds", but that is a matter of taste. The functionality is good so far, and the build quality is great. I did have one problem with the trigger jack not responding, but that was because the jack had a metal flange bent so it was grounding out the plug when fully inserted. I reached in there with a wire and pushed the flange out of the way - now it works fine! This seems like something that would have been spotted if the builder had tested the module .. but no biggie, I fixed it. And the price was very reasonable.Read full review
