As an engineer, I had certain parameters in mind in choosing a cell phone for my wife, who is a small woman with small hands. So phone body and screen size were critical in making our choice. This Moto G4 Play phone has a 5.0-inch (diag.) screen with a 720x1280 pixel resolution and the overall length of 144mm and width of 72mm is perfect for smaller hands. The thickness at 9.9mm doesn't matter in the slightest (we have a shock protective case around it that adds thickness anyway). The other critical criteria for this phone were more technical. We needed GSM compatibility for our carrier, a removable/replaceable battery and I wanted the RAM (lower) memory to be at least 2GB and the NAND (upper) memory to be at least 12GB to be able to hold basic Apps such as GMail, and Google Keep, while allowing enough spare memory for downloading and installing updates. This G4 Play phone has 2GB lower and 16GB upper memory capacity. On review and info sites like GSMArena, you will find the usual bevy of whiner/complainers about this and other Moto phones. They're behind the times, they don't have enough memory, the cameras aren't sharp enough, they don't have this that or the other fancy or useless features that other brand phones and flagship phones of the day have. Well, those guys are the nerdy people who play games and try to do EVERYTHING on their phones with hundreds of installed Apps. This phone is for people who want good reception for voice calls and enough memory to load basic and functional Apps and have it perform well, instead of being at the bloody edge of technology limits on phones. It was perfect for my wife's business needs and hand size. But, it is a 2016 phone and T-Mobile, our carrier, has now acquired 600MHz cellular spectrum (Band 71) that more easily penetrates into substantial buildings such as the hospitals in which my wife works. We have recently purchased another Moto phone, this time the Moto E6 (2019; 5.5" screen; Band 71) and have not yet had time to provision it. It has the same Memory specs as the G4 Play and we expect it to pick up Band 71 signals where the G4 Play was not capable of doing so. The 600MHz spectrum, especially for those of us in the sparsly populated West of the US, is a game changer for signal reception. Overall, if Band 71 signal reception is not of concern, this smaller G4 Play phone is absolutely functional and useful for smaller hands with good reception and a nice readable screen at a super reasonable price.Read full review

It is extremely difficult to figure out how to operate every thing on the Moto G 4th gen to block a phone number you have to first put it to your contacts and then he have that contact sent to voicemail I still haven't figured out how to place my photos in a spot where I can receive them from a different application I finally figured out how to move the applications to the memory card it seems like everything is a hunt and extra moves I think I like my old Android versions much better it would help if I had a manual I'm shore

Good equipment regarding battery and ability to download app, but it is very simple. It is not a computer with which you will be astonished by the infinity of configurations that you have to discover. It has no file, so to be able to place music as ringstone you have to download ES File Explorer. Good memory, for those who do not load the phone app, only the necessary. The battery is excellent compared to the equipment it had, hard, hard and hard. What I liked the most, was that I just placed the sim card of my cellular company and already, I did not have to call to configure and none of that.

Very nice phone. Does almost everything I need. If looking for premium features this model may be lacking. For example, if you want to mirror display on a TV. Phone is capable of being unlocked and rooted🐣 bringing it into its full glory. Very pleased with overall performance for the price. Would highly recommend. Battery is removable🐥. This is what I like best🐓.

I've had this phone for 2 weeks and it has everything I was looking for at an affordable price. My old phone was 3 years old it still worked fine but I it wouldn't support WhatsApp which I needed to contact my children in school out of the country. My only complaint is the volume at the highest level is too quiet and I'm not hard of hearing. But I'd like the volume to be louder than it is when I'm using the speaker phone. Otherwise it's a great phone.
