Between the improved animations and various other bits of graphics, the arcade quality sound with extra voice overs, and the blood without the need for a code, you really do have here the best version of Mortal Kombat on console. Granted, at this point it's pretty easy to get a low end PC to run the Arcade version, which is superior in every way, but still if you're a console addict or just don't want to bother messing with emulators then this is your best bet. Also worth note is this uses the six button Genesis controller, one of my personal favorite controllers for fighting games thanks to it's cushy d-pad and responsive buttons. The only reason I'm not giving it 5 stars are the loading times, which really aren't that bad. They only bother me during the fight with Shang Tsung, which is a whole different experience than the arcade: On Arcade Shang rapidly switches between characters to go absolutely insane on you with no loading times at all, but here on the CD the media shows it's limits by forcing loads between transformations which can get a bit jaring. Also I feel like on the console versions Shang doesn't go nearly as crazy with how he fights, though maybe that's the difficulty I played at. Overall, a great game, and a wonderful addition to any Sega CD collection. FIGHT!Read full review

Had Two different bottom loading Sega Cd systems when This came out New & Never Could Get any of the 3 disc at that time to Work(Bought one disc at store didnt work , They gave me another New copy which didn't work either. Then borrowed a Disc from someone about a year later & that one didn't Work) I Then Got Another Sega cd system a few years ago Then Found a Mortal Kombat Sega cd disc at a yard sale last year for $2. Finally Tried it and It Only Sometimes will show the Main menu before Freezes, yet another Mint looking Disc & Nothing at all on either of my Older Sega Cd systems either. The ONLY Sega CD Game i Ever Had That Would Never Work. Junk Disc My One Other Friend Had Same Problem With Only This Game too.

I didn’t know how huge these cases are until I got it. The manual is in good shape too which is cool. These cases are just big and cool looking. Nice decoration for a game room.

Mortal Kombat was a great game in its day. It was the first violent fighter and the Sega versions were the truest to form. I have played this version as well as the versions on the Genesis and SNES and can assure you that this is the closest to the arcade original with all the gore. Control is identical to the Genesis version but with the best sound out of the three versions. This title when released also had the best price of the three. It is more uncommon than the other versions, probably due to the lack of success of the Sega CD. If you are a MK fan, this is my pick for the best version of the original MK.
