This could have been Great! It was written by the characters creator but unfortunately it was rewritten by studio people until only 1 line of original dialogue was left. The Main plot is the same and that is the only saving grace. What is it about hollywood that they can't cast a brunette to play a brunette and a blonde to play a blonde. Monica Vitti's casting was a huge mistake and she only wore a dark wig for about 2 minutes in the entire movie just so we did get a glimpse at what Modesty should look like.Out of 3 attempts to bring Modesty to life , this cost the most but was the worst of the 3.The only reason i own it on DVD is i am a Modesty collector and i want a complete collection, that doesn't mean i will be rewatching it anytime soon. The pilot for the ABC network in the 80's was slightly better but still miscast. The 2002 direct to DVD My Name is Modesty... is the closest to being faithful to the character but is more of a origin story that only gets a few details wrong. The actress was ok but on the slight side and this was made to keep the rights while they tried to get a full movie into production. I for the life of me don't know why best seller novels get made into movie but a comic strip or book movie has to have a whole new script made up instead. I just wish someone would take one of Peter O'Donell's strip stories or novels and Put it on the movie screen. Then we would finally have a GREAT Modesty Blaise Movie !!! Yeah i'll be waiting for that but won't hold my breath.Read full review
1960’s: Perhaps the costume designer should get the applause....colorful color and styles changing moment by moment. The comedy screenplay was enhanced during filming with excessive pandemonium - a circus of continuous costume changes, flamboyant gestures, and inane dialog.

If you are expecting Modesty to be a fighting female, that's not shown. Her theme song is great and memorable. But is not an adventure story. It is enjoyable.

Prepare yourself for something out of the ordinary. These films have different plots, different scripts than what is normally considered normal fare in 'narrative continuity'. Being made in the 60's these films are made to be whimsical, emphasis on whimsy, 60's dry humor, and of course, filling in niches of the 60s' spy craze. Shagadelic!
