This thing has oodles of control. Although it is not programmable itself, there are plenty of Ableton and Traktor scripts available on the web and it is mapable in most software. It is visually clear to work with. If there is a drawback for me, it's that it can do SO much it will take me a LONG time to learn it all. Having a blast with it, Dave

Product is okay. It came in slightly worse condition than I expected. Missing a cable and a few knobs.

Even though designed for Ableton this controller can be programmed to use for anything. It’s like have a home studio mixer board at your disposal. It’s perfect for performing and production. Rock solid design, replaceable crossfader, 8 banks of knobs via shift key, mixer sliders feel solid also. The APC40 MK1 (original) is probably THEE only must have device besides a Push for Ableton. There are a ton of dj setups for free online if you want to customize. You can even mod out the knobs and sliders or add wood panel with the proper kit.

An incredible tool for anyone looking to significantly expand their capabilities in Abelton. I have been messing around with Abelton for nearly a year, and as a hobbyist also mixing sets with a Hecules RMX-4 controller. While I love creating long sets and mixing in music and sounds from numerous genres, I am no DJ and I enjoy the production aspect a lot more. That's where the APC really comes in, as a production tool, it allows you to manipulate Abelton effortlessly (though you can change the MIDI settings to make it do whatever you want) and intuitively, making audio effect chaining while recording that much easier and being able to control numerous tracks simultaneously a cinch. It's also great to play live with, granted it requires time to get used to (like everything I suppose), it suits me a lot better than my RMX-4, and lets me play my own tracks and make mashups and record on the fly. One last thing I'll say that I appreciate is the build, my RMX-4, while very sturdy, was INCREDIBLY sensitive to static-shock. It was all metal casing, and the slightest shock would short the system and require a reboot of the DJ software. The APC is also nice and heavy, but I am happy to say I have yet to have any malfunction, static or otherwise, while playing.Read full review
First generation machine but still great to use. So much control. And you can pick it up for very little money.
