A slight misalignment between holes and underlying connectors can be frustrating. If you're not careful your pin will bend when you try to insert it into a hole. I must often break out my magnifying glass to see which way to 'lean' the pin so it goes in. That being said, they've been working alright, no shorts, not broken, etc, and a great price.

they do not appear to be knock-offs wires insert easily and make good contact

The contact tie-points very a lot. Some are too loose so a wire will not stick and other tie-points are to tight so it bends the anode of a LED. But what can you expect? 10 breadboards for 13 US dollars.

Do they work? Yes to some degree. The elements inside are not really aliened with the plastic mold. The plastic mold of the breadboard has been made very sloppy and I had to work with a knife to make them fit each other. Also, the connectors are changed from the old ones which is just bluntly stupid because now they can't be used with the old ones, it goes against the idea of having them in the first place. This is sloppy.
