I'll start off by saying that I have never played a Metal Gear game in my life (gasp!), but I am somewhat familiar with the gameplay and story line of the series. With that being said, this game plays out very differently from past Metal Gear games such as Snake Eater and the incredible Guns of the Patriots in the fact that this is a fast paced game that doesn't put much emphasis on stealth as the others did. What you're playing is a fast paced hack and slash game that gives you very little time to breathe before the next battle begins. I don't want to go too much into the story as I don't want to accidentally spoil anything, but what I will say is it's a pretty good storyline that has its fair share of action and a small touch of humor. All the characters are acted well and provide for some unique boss battles. I really liked the graphics. Not just visually, but it runs very fluidly with pretty much no lag. If you've played Bayonetta then you kinda get the jist of where I'm going with that. The soundtrack is what won me over. I hear people say its odd and it's too much rock music but in my opinion I think its perfect. Now the big topic at hand: the gameplay. You have two main attacks; a light and fast attack, along with a heavy and moderate paced attack. Along with that, you have an arsonal of secondary weapons that you pick up like grenades and rocket launchers, along with cardboard boxes and drum cans for the occassional stealth sections. The biggest bulk of your attacks and the funnest by far is blade mode. This is where time slows down and you can cut up your enemies however you please. Not only can you cut up enemies, you can cut up about 90% of the surrounding. Whether it be cars, trees, lightpoles, chances are you can slice it up. My only gripe is the block attack move. How you do it is you move the stick in the direction the enemy is coming and press X at the same time to par the attack. It's awkward at first, but with practice you'll get the idea of it. All in all, this is a great game and one you should definitely pick up if you're big into hack and slash games. If you're like me and you have never played a Metal Gear game in the past, what I can tell you is you won't feel lost in the story playing this. From what I understand, it takes place four years after Guns of the Patriots. That's incase any fans of the series were wondering where it fit in the timeline. Bottom line: don't pass this up.Read full review
I'm not a huge metal gear fan, I played 1 and 2. But I saw this game was recommended when searching for "best hack and slash" games. Its cheap on steam, used on Xbox, I ended up buying it on steam and then buying a physical copy from eBay. It's super fun, story line is silly but the game play and graphics hold up just fine. Give it a shot, you won't regret it.

Metal Gear's in action mode is what "Rising" is all about. As much as I love how the way Hideo Kojima make his game, this is not so much different at all coming from a 3rd party developer Platinum game's. They made it so well that the storyline can related to Kojima's in all aspect. The game start out with Raiden protecting a president in Africa. After failing the mission to protect him, Raiden and his crew is out to find the the guy behind this. If you have played "Son of Liberty" and remember the final mission where Raiden did his sword played for a short period of time, then you are going to love this game. The sword play for this game is one of the best if not second. I recommended this game for any Metal Gear's die hard fan out there.
Great graphics, great gameplay and awesome soundtrack. Good times all around for fans of adventure, hack and slash games with some RPG mix.
