This is a practical guide to Christianity written from the perspective of a non-believer who becomes a Christian. Although written in the 1940s, the book is surprisingly current. Questions are thorougly answered in a logical step by step fashion. The author states,"Anyone who wants to think about God at all would like to have the clearest and most accurate ideas about him which are available.....Never pin your faith on any human being.... As a living man Christ is here with us now." The author clearly discusses these topics and more. You can read this book in bits and pieces because there is so much to digest in each small chapter. This is excellent reference material and will be a keeper on your library shelf.
Clive Lewis is an amazing layman Christian. If you are already a Christian you will find insight and understanding for living the life and walking the walk. If you are a seeker and not yet surrendered you will find encouragement for your journey. In this book he presents the argument for the golden rule of doing unto others as you would have them do unto you. It is not "In your face, repent or suffer." He presents the Christian walk with common sense and day to day living. I love this guy.

This book was required reading for a college class, but I recognized the author, C.S. Lewis. (he wrote all the Narnia stories long before they became movies). A classic author in his own right, he writes about timeless subjects, as in the case of this book, "Mere Christianity". Lewis provides an unequal opportunity for believers and nonbelievers alike to hear a powerful and rational case for the Christian faith. Lewis spoke on radio to his fellow Britons about knowing right from wrong and about what Christians believe. During war-torn Europe; he broadcast his uplifting speeches from 1942 to 1944. These speeches were eventually gathered into this book, "Mere Christianity". It is a work of oral literature, addressed to the people at war. If you are 'on the fence' so to speak, in regards to Christianity, C.S. Lewis is the ideal persuader for the 'half-convinced' good man who lets his intellect get in the way.Read full review
I am a long time fan of C.S. Lewis and his master (his words), George MacDonald. I must say that I am a larger fan of both of their masters, Jesus, or Y'shua. Jesus laid into a few simple words immense mystery and simple understanding. Let us understand Mere Christianity is the work of a former Atheist turned Christian apologetic. The Christian and non-Christian alike should read this book so that they may better understand each other. If only the differing beliefs would study one another, en masse.... I find Lewis' prose to be distinctly intelligent and charming. Here for you is a chance to better understand the world in which we share and why many believe Y'shua to be the Creator Incarnate. God Incarnate. The concept shakes one. For anyone interested in theology, I highly recommend this book and along with it, D. James Kennedy's "Why I Believe" and Saint Augustine's "Confessions". The Bible and these 3 make a strong case for a One True Living God with the name of Yaweh.Read full review
